Protein Engineering
Catalog Description:
Protein engineering: Cloning, express and purification of proteins, and E.Coli and Yeast
expression systems. Design of proteins for specific end uses.
Course Objectives: Ability to design protein modifications to enhance thermo-, non-aqueous
stability. Understand principles of drug design based on 3d structures of drug & target protein.
Ability to access, query and employ molecular structure and sequence databases.
Acquire skills in molecular graphics modeling of small molecule and protein structures.
Appreciation of how protein engineering has contributed to understanding protein structure and
folding,
enzyme
mechanisms,
antibody-antigen
&
protein-DNA
interactions.
A realistic assessment of the future potential for protein engineering and design.
