It is not essential that you incorporate every aspect of this booklet, but with each small addition of this knowledge to your therapy, you statistically increase your chances for long-term remission. Current cancer research focuses on regulating the genes that are altered in cancer, and assumed to be driving progression of the disease. The benefits of targeted therapies, such as BRAF inhibitors for melanoma, have been showing amazing results with each new clinical trial resulting in a small population of long term remissions (Flaherty et al., 2010). While the databases are full of both unique and shared genetic alterations that have been identified and used as a targets for drug development, identifying these unique genetic signatures in every patient, referred to as personalized medicine, is not yet cost effective and remains a benefit only to patients that participate in clinical trials. However, the benefit of targeted drug research and development has an immediate benefit to cancer patients above and beyond drug development. In order to identify and develop a drug that targets a specific cancer-causing genetic alteration, extensive and costly research is required to establish the mechanisms of both the genetic alteration, as well as the drug. The benefit of this extensive research is that it results in the identification of many substances that regulate the mechanism, including naturally occurring nutraceuticals. In other words, once the genetic alterations that cause a specific cancer have been identified, customized diets can be designed to control them. We refer to these as ‘gene-based nutraceutical diets.’ In This Booklet, We Will: Identify the genes and mechanisms that cause this cancer; Identify nutraceuticals that have been shown to have a direct and positive influence on this mechanism; Identify other nutraceuticals that improve the performance of the gene regulating nutraceuticals; Show you how to create synergistic combinations of nutraceuticals that can both increase the activity of the nutraceuticals, as well as improve their uptake by the body and the cancer cells specifically. This review is structured into two different sections: 1. In section I, we will cover some of the key molecular processes involved in the progression of ER+, PR+, and Her - invasive breast ductal carcinoma. We will then introduce the genes specific to each process. 2. In section III, we will identify nutraceuticals that have the greatest effect on the molecular processes unique to this case and discuss how they work. And finally, we will make some dietary recommendations and discuss how to include them in your daily diet for maximum prevention of cancer recurrence.
