Java Junction Management BUS 360 2013-2014 School Year Are you… a creative thinker and problem-solver OR entrepreneurial OR interested in starting or running your own business OR an entrepreneurship minor OR eager to apply what you’re learning in your business courses OR looking for a unique and fun way to earn course credit? Yes? Be part of the Java Junction management team! The Java Junction management team is responsible for all of the business decisions related to operating the coffee bar located in the Connector. Although the team is responsible for the overall operations of Java Junction, each manager is responsible for one area of the business: OPERATIONS: responsible for maintaining product quality, a high level of customer service, and overall operations. Works with the human resource manager on barista training and education. Works closely with other managers when hosting events in Java Junction. Responsible for managing special events in Java Junction. HUMAN RESOURCES: responsible for scheduling baristas, hiring and training new baristas, and keeping an efficient and effective level of labor. Works closely with the operations manager on barista training and education. MARKETING: responsible for implementing marketing ideas that will increase the volume and profitability of Java Junction. Works closely with other managers on event coordination, publicity, and new product ideas. Also responsible for managing the website, Facebook page, and RedPost activity. PURCHASING: responsible for maintaining an efficient level of inventory, researching new product ideas, and developing relationships with suppliers. Works closely with the marketing manager on new product ideas. ACCOUNTING: responsible for recording all financial transactions of Java Junction. Reports financial performance regularly to the management team and works closely with the operations and human resources managers on barista training related to sales transactions and cash handling procedures. A basic understanding of Quickbooks is helpful. CATERING & SPECIAL EVENTS: responsible for coordinating catering events, promoting catering services to the campus, and maintaining the catering content on the website. Works closely with the marketing manager on event coordination and promotion. Anyone interested in being a member of the management team must complete the application (see the next page) and return the application to Michelle Horning ([email protected]) by Friday, March 22. If selected you must be able to enroll in BUS 360 in the fall and/or spring semesters. The course may be repeated for two semesters. It is expected that you will spend approximately 8-10 hours per week on Java Junction management work.
