Job Title: Marketing and Engagement Manager Responsible to: Head of Sales and Marketing Responsible for: 5 direct reports Salary: £30-35k depending on experience Introduction Raleigh International develops and delivers programmes that build the leadership, personal and social development skills of young people through their engagement with challenging community and environmental service activities primarily overseas. The aim is to develop people who can build strong sustainable communities, working together as part of a global alumni community and contributing on their return as active global citizens. The Marketing and Engagement Manager role will be part of the Sales and Marketing team which aims to create awareness of Raleigh’s work and to recruit young people and volunteer managers onto our programmes. The Sales and Marketing team’s role is threefold: 1) Development of UK and international marketing and engagement activity aimed at audiences interested in joining Raleigh’s programmes or referring people onto programmes 2) Managing the enquiry, application and selection processes through Raleigh’s CRM database, as well as management reporting, trend analysis and account management of international referral agencies 3) Central responsibility for developing and implementing Raleigh’s branding and communication strategy, including brand guidelines, key messages, PR, alumni communications, production of marketing collateral and the ongoing maintenance and development of the Raleigh website, Overall Purpose of the Post The marketing and engagement manager’s role has been created to oversee the first responsibility above – to articulate the marketing and engagement strategy for all youth and older volunteer audiences in the UK. You’ll be ensuring that your direct team develops and implements annual plans across a variety of media platforms and builds relationships with youth and professional organisations in the UK that can refer volunteers onto our programmes. The recruitment manager will rely on sufficient enquiries generated by your team so that her team can select a strong pool of volunteers. You will also brief in the communications team to ensure that the website, marketing materials and PR activity support you in your awareness and engagement activities. Specific Responsibilities Work with the team to define the target audiences and gather insights about their motivations, interests, media consumption, hopes and fear Analyse and coordinate the gathering and analysis of strategic information on external and market trends, competition, external threats and opportunities Lead the development of a marketing and engagement strategy for both core expeditions and Raleigh International Citizen Service (ICS) underpinned by internal and external insights Direct the team to create annual marketing and recruitment plans for each audience to encompass both on- and off-line activity as well as recruitment events Manage budget to deliver marketing and recruitment activity Implement and monitor the effectiveness of the marketing plans to ensure appropriate allocation of financial and people resource Identify referral partners that can help Raleigh meet its widening participation agenda such as disability, social mobility and ethnic minority charities Build Raleigh’s engagement with youth networks across the UK through faceto-face meetings with key Raleigh advocates within those networks Deliver Raleigh open events and presentations to young people and their referral partners Line manage five direct reports – four marketing and recruitment officers and one events coordinator Work with the corporate communications and PR team to design and run role play training for whole team Brief in the corporate communications and PR team to develop messaging, marketing materials and PR campaigns that drive awareness of and engagement in Raleigh programmes Utilise social media platforms to engage all audiences Work with the PR Officer to generate quality case studies from young people and volunteer managers Negotiate advertising and targeted email packages with third party websites and publications such as gap year, graduate recruitment and volunteering Write copy for the Raleigh website, targeted emails and third party websites and publications as well as other key organisational documents Other Handle incoming and following up on enquiries from potential participants Maintain accurate and detailed records of contact with all target educational establishments, potential participants, and youth and professional organisations Contribute to the development of internal systems and processes Share best practice, ideas, learnings and successes within the team and organisation-wide to maximise the effectiveness of marketing activities Person Specification Skills and Experience Essential • Understanding of the work of Raleigh • Evidence of developing marketing strategy underpinned by consumer insight and external and internal data analysis • Evidence of implementing marketing activity aimed at youth market (17-24 year olds) including e-marketing and social media • Up-to-date knowledge and usage of a wide variety of social media platforms • Track record of building networks with professional bodies and organisations • Creative and accurate copy-writing skills • Well developed interpersonal, communication and networking skills • Enthusiastic and energetic manager who possesses a ‘can do’ attitude • • • • • • • • • • • Have experience of managing a team of at least two people – including performance management, appraisals, personal development and workload management Track record in analysing data to identify and monitor trends Have excellent planning, organisational and time management skills Be able to work well under pressure, prioritise a heavy workload and work both reactively and pro-actively Self starter with an enthusiastic, positive and flexible attitude Track record in multi-tasking and structuring and prioritising workload to meet deadlines Excellent administration skills and attention to detail Track record in being results-driven and achieving target IT literacy: good level of competency with spreadsheets, word processing and PowerPoint Innovative approach to problem-solving Commitment to the aims, ethos and culture of Raleigh International Other Information Values, Behaviours, Competencies Raleigh International’s core values are Drive, Courage, Integrity, and Discovery. The holiday entitlement is 25 working days per year, plus bank holidays Normal office hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00 - 5.00, although weekend and evening working will be required for Raleigh meetings, events, phone calls and at very busy times of the year (2-4 evenings per month). You are expected to attend one evening event per month which will not attract TOIL unless the event is outside London and requires travelling time to return to the office. All other events will attract TOIL or flexible working hours as agreed prior to the event with the employee’s line manager, and in accordance with the guidance set out in the staff handbook.
