CALL FOR ARTIST DESIGNERS FOR MI MUNDO – ARRIVALS 3D ROADSHOW This call is for artists and/or designers interested in building the Arrivals 3D Roadshow installation, including creating the performance spaces and selecting the actors for the performances of Mi Mundo. Terra Nova Productions is happy to accept tenders from individual practitioners, partnerships and groups of artists. THE CREATIVE VISION FOR MI MUNDO – THE ARRIVALS 3D ROADSHOW Building on our experience of creating intercultural theatre and workshops with Arrivals and Arrivals2, Terra Nova Productions is piloting a totally new kind of immersive intercultural experience. We are bringing our workshops and production together to create a live immersive intercultural theatre experience. The play is funny, romantic and packs an emotional punch – and there is a built in workshop, a bit like a Tedtalk for audiences. What is more, venues don’t need a traditional theatre space to host this project. What we are Saying to Audiences: During the immersive performance audiences engage with the true story of a young woman falling in love with someone from the other side of the globe. Based a couple whom the Arrivals company met last year, Mi Mundo is both a love story and the tale of a Northern Irish family who take on the might of the British Government. Mi Mundo & the Arrivals 3D Roadshow experience allows you to join an MC who takes you through Lisa and Joaquin’s story. Only 25 people at a time get to try this brand new theatre experience, which happens right in front of your eyes. In between scenes, there’s a chance to read documents, look at pictures, watch the show, and finally give your opinion on the story. As the actors move amongst them, and audience members follow the action around the room experiencing it with the actors. Audiences are challenged to think about what they would do if faced with the problems the characters deal with. In the interactive workshop, the second part of the experience, audiences are led by an intercultural facilitator through exercises, they get to compare notes, and discover the consequences of the decisions they have taken. Effectively this is warm and engaging masterclass in our social responsibilities as human beings. THE CREATION OF THE INSTALLATION/SET AND COSTUMES The Artist Designer on Mi Mundo – the Arrivals 3D Roadshow will work alongside the show Director Tom Finlay, the writer Andrea Montgomery (Terra Nova Artistic Director) and holographic sound designer Gus Leudar the immersive world in which the audience experience the production. The Artist Designer would also have the opportunity to make use of anything created during the masterclass by participants. Outputs Outputs would include: A holding area, rich with relevant objects and information, for audiences to experience on arrival The scenic areas of the play (a living room, a waiting room, a dance studio, a tunnel of experience – these need not be realistic) The costumes for the play A response wall, where audience responses after the workshop could be incorporated into the installation The script assumes that a number of letters and photographs, collages and objects make up the installation. The planning assumes that one large room with be available for the roadshow, and a smaller room will be available for the workshop in each venue. Only the roadshow room will need to be decorated, but it must include various different spaces that the audience moves through. The installation would need to be tourable, and capable of being set up within approximately 2 hours. The Artist/Designer would use the first installation, at the Crescent Arts Centre, to show the stage manager how to pack and set up the installation. Our intended audiences and participants are two-fold. Firstly we engage ethnic minority audiences and participants, providing a place in Belfast’s professional theatre sector where ethnic communities can see themselves, their lives, and stories represented on stage. Secondly our activities engage the city’s indigenous population enabling expression of the views, values and beliefs they hold about our changing society; creating experiences and processes where all of the people can mix, learn and share. Our two current core staff members, Andrea Montgomery and Tom Finlay, share more than 40 years’ experience of theatre producing, directing, writing and community engagement.
