The plan will be described in a 6-8 page (double-spaced) paper to be turned in at the beginning of the class period on 6-3. The class periods on, 5-27, 61 and 6-3 will be devoted to oral presentations by the students of their intervention plans, with subsequent discussion by the class (35% of grade). STD EDITORIAL/ LETTER Each student will prepare an 300-500-word concise editorial on a current STD/HIV policy related topic under consideration at the state, county or city level and based on the position taken in the editorial write and send a letter in support or opposition to that policy (15% of grade). TAKE-HOME FINAL Each student complete a take-home final covering the concepts presented in the course. The final is due at 12 Noon on Thursday, June 11 (50% of grade). REQUIRED READING Control of Communicable Diseases Manual, 18th Edition, APHA/WHO Kenrad Nelson, MD; Carolyn Masters Williams, PhD Infectious Disease Epidemiology: Theory and Practice, Second Edition, Jones and Bartlett, Publishers Students will be expected to read the portions on sexually transmitted diseases. Two copies of the textbook will be available on reserve in the Biomed Library. Lecture materials will be posted after class each week on the website—will require password.
