CHARTER OF
ANN B. BARSHINGER CANCER INSTITUTE ONCOLOGY DISEASE TEAMS
MEMBERSHIP
Membership of each Oncology Disease Team (ODT) shall represent the continuum of care from cancer
control, through diagnosis, treatment and treatment recovery. The ODT membership will be determined by a
collaborative appointment process conducted by the Oncology Physicians Advisory Council and Ann B.
Barshinger Cancer Institute (ABBCI) Administration. On an annual basis, membership will be assessed to be
sure that the composition of the ODT meets the needs of the work.
PURPOSE OF ONCOLOGY DISEASE TEAMS
In concert with strategic vision of the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Center (ABBCC), each Disease Team shall:





Influence treatment planning
Strengthen referral patterns and increase business
Decrease cost of care
Improve care quality
Improve patient experience
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ONCOLOGY DISEASE TEAMS
1) Advise Oncology Physicians Advisory Council
a) Community need
b) Scope of services
c) Technology horizon
d) Cost of care
2) Develop and implement clinical pathways
a) Decrease variation in clinical practice utilizing evidence-based guidelines
b) Practice team-based care
3) Develop and implement patient progression pathways
a) Improve access to care for new and existing patients
b) Improve patient experience for new and existing patients
4) Define and support the agenda for multidisciplinary clinical research initiatives
a. Ensure that there are adequate studies available across the continuum of the disease
process including all stages of disease, plus recurrence and retreatment.
b. Actively participate in patient enrollment, achieving a defined threshold of research
enrollment per physician subspecialist, as outlined by each ODT.
5) Develop curriculum to meet education needs:
a. Perform annual gap analysis to determine priorities
b. Determine key audience and best forum to reach that audience
6) Use huddle board once monthly at Tumor Board to:
a. Monitor reporting metrics, including, but not limited to:
i. Pathway compliance
ii. Access
iii. Outcomes
iv. Volume
v. Cost
b. Determine follow up plan
