4th Grade Word Work May Weeks 1-2: Polysyllabic Words During the first two weeks of each month, students will explore polysyllabic words, analyzing prefixes, suffixes, and root words to determine meaning. Students will participate in review activities throughout the week that emphasize word meaning and structure. Nifty Thrifty Fifty Words for May Weeks 1-2 Students need to focus on the word meaning and structure, not just the spelling of the word. This month students will review all of the Nifty Thrifty Fifty words that have been taught this year. 4th Grade Word Work May Week 3: Word Wall Words and Visual Checking of Patterns During week three of each month, students will explore specific word wall words and patterns. These words and patterns have been selected as words that are difficult to master and are important for continued vocabulary development. Lists of this week’s words, along with the specific patterns they are learning, are listed below. Thousands of English words are derived from Greek and Latin and the nature of the English language becomes evident in the study of these elements. An understanding of how Greek and Latin elements work will assist students with the vocabulary they will need to acquire as they continue their education.
