What is the Enlightenment, Neoclassical Period?
o A movement during the 18th century in
Europe which was characterized by a
rational and scientific approach to
religious, social, political, and economic
issues in contrast to the biblical/religious
approach or views of the past.

o Neoclassical is the name given to
distinct movements in ;
o Decorative & visual arts
o Literature
o Theatre
o Music
o Architecture
o These movements were dominant during
the mid 18th to the end of the 19th century.
Art – Francisco Goya
o Considered the “father of Modern Art”
o Started painting right after the Baroque
period
o Painted for Charles lll and then for
Charles lv
o In 1792 he went deaf from a horrible
fever
o His sorrow and despair influenced his
dark paintings of monsters

o Jean-Baptiste Poquelin
was better known as

to be the ‘creator of
