CHILD CANCER
INTERNATIONAL (CCI)
Background
 CCI was founded in 1994 with 11 member organisations. Today CCI is the
largest international patient support organisation for childhood cancer ad
has a membership comprising 181 parent groups in 90 countries across 6
continents.
 CCI is a parent focussed and parent driven organisation where fulll
membership is restricted to those organisations where parents comprise the
majority of the board. All other groups can apply for associate membership
but have no voting rights
Vision
 “ To be recognised worldwide as the body representing families of children
with cancer”
Mission
 Sharing knowledge and experience to improve access to the best possible
care for children with cancer all over the world.
Governance
 The Board comprises of 8 Trustees representative of the 6 continents,
namely Europe, Africa, Asia, North America, South America and Oceania.
 Mary McGowan - current Oceanic Representative on the Board
 Simon Lala – Past Board Chair, current financial advisor and life member
Activities & Events
 Holds Annual Conferences which focuses on lectures and workshops on
topics of interest to Child Cancer Groups
 Regional Conferences which focus on the needs and concerns of
particular regions
 Promoting Twinning Opportunities between developed and developing
countries.
 Supporting the formation and growth of parent groups in developing
countries.
 Advocacy on the International Stage thru bodies like SIOP, WHO and the
European Union. International Childhood Cancer Day was established to
promote International Awareness ( 15 February)

 European Union for specific projects.
 Donations.
INTERNATIONAL CHILD CANCER PROJECTS
 CCI supports organisations or agencies who are running child cancer
programs in developing countries.
