The Impossibility of Life by
Chance
Acts 17:24
God who made the world and all things in it, since He is
Lord of heaven and earth
A Serious Look at How the World Dishonors God
Hebrews 11:3
By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by
the word of God
Psalm 14:1-3
1
The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are
corrupt, they have committed abominable deeds; there is no
one who does good.
2
The LORD has looked down from heaven upon the sons of
men to see if there are any who understand, who seek after
God.
Isaiah 42:5-8
5 Thus says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and
stretched them out, Who spread out the earth and its
offspring, Who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to
those who walk in it,
6
"I am the Lord”
3
They have all turned aside, together they have become
corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.
8
Psalm 10:4
The wicked, in the haughtiness of his countenance,
does not seek Him. All his thoughts are, "There is no
God."
Revelation 4:11
"Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory
and honor and power; for You created all things, and
because of Your will they existed, and were created."
How Did Life Begin?
What God Says
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heavens and the
earth.
Job 38:1-4
1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and
said, 2 "Who is this that darkens counsel by words without
knowledge? Now gird up your loins like a man, and I will ask
you, and you instruct Me! Where were you when I laid the
foundation of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding”
"I am the LORD, that is My name; I will not give My glory
to another, nor My praise to graven images.
“I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and
wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my
soul knows it very well.” - Psalm 139:14
What Satan Says
1. DOUBT GOD'S Words
Genesis 3:1-5
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the
field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the
woman, "Indeed, has God said, 'You shall not eat from
any tree of the garden'?"
2. DON'T BELIEVE GOD'S WORDS
The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not
die!”
4
3. DON'T BELIEVE GOD
"For God knows that in the day you eat from it your
eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good
and evil."
5
Did God really make the world?
You are being deceived.
There’s no way God made the world!
If God was so good, then why is the world so bad?
Why is it wrong for two women to marry if they love each
other?
Why is it wrong for a person to be a homosexual if they were
born that way?
There is an intentional attack on God undergirding
much of what you hear in the world.
How Did Life Begin?
What Evolution Says
Life began by chance about 3.7 billions of years ago
Charles Darwin
According to the Darwinist model of evolution, undirected
natural causes are responsible for the origin and
development of life. Because Darwinist evolution is based
solely on random genetic mutation,
…it precludes the possibility of a supernatural Creator or
any guiding intelligence playing a role in life's development.
Darwin says it just happened – God did not do it.
Contemporary Science admits life is much more
complicated than Darwin realized, and they really don’t
know how life began.
Scientist Paleontologist Andrew Knoll, a professor of
biology at Harvard and author of Life on a Young Planet:
The First Three Billion Years of Life, has exhaustively
investigated this subject (www.pbs.com) -- What are the
origins of life? How did things go from non-living to living?
From something that could not reproduce to something that
could?
In a nutshell, what is the process? How does life form?
The short answer is we don't really know how life
originated on this planet. There have been a variety of
experiments that tell us some possible roads, but we
remain in substantial ignorance.
That said, I think what we're looking for is some kind of
molecule that is simple enough that it can be made by
physical processes on the young Earth, yet complicated
enough that it can take charge of making more of itself.
That, I think, is the moment when we cross that great
divide and start moving toward something that most people
would recognize as living.
Scientist Diana Northup, Cave Biologist at the
University of New Mexico, (www.lifescience.com) says
"Many theories of the origin of life have been proposed,
but since it's hard to prove or disprove them, no fully
accepted theory exists,"
Despite knowing approximately when life first appeared
on Earth, scientists are still far from answering how it
appeared.
The answer to this question would fill one of the largest gaps
in scientists' understanding of nature
Contemporary Scientists today (www.livescience.com)
say there are several competing theories for how life arose
on Earth. Some question whether life began on Earth at all,
asserting instead that it came from a distant world or the
heart of a fallen comet or asteroid.
7 Theories on the Origin of Life
Perhaps life did not begin on Earth at all, but was
brought here from elsewhere in space, a notion
known as panspermia. For instance, rocks regularly
get blasted off Mars by cosmic impacts, and a number
of Martian meteorites have been found on Earth that
some researchers have controversially suggested
brought microbes over here, potentially making us all
Martians originally. Other scientists have even
suggested that life might have hitchhiked on
comets from other star systems. However, even if
this concept were true, the question of how life began
on Earth would then only change to how life began
elsewhere in space.
21
Romans 1:21-22
For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him
as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their
speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing to be wise, they became fools
What is Life?
Life requires the ability to replicate itself.
DNA must replicate itself. This is how one cell splits into
two new cells.
Understanding Evolution (evolution.berkley.edu), which
claims to be “Your one stop source or information on
evolution” says:
“All living things reproduce, copying their genetic material
and passing it on to their offspring.
Thus, the ability to copy the molecules that encode genetic
information is a key step in the origin of life — without it, life
could not exist.
The Complexity of Life
Scientist Diana Northup, Cave Biologist at the
University of New Mexico, says, “While there are
scientists who think DNA could have arisen
spontaneously on early Earth, others say the odds of
such a thing happening are astronomical.”
Scientist Chemist Robert Shapiro, at New York
University, says "The appearance of such a molecule
(RNA), given the way chemistry functions, is incredibly
improbable. It would be a once-in-a-universe long shot."
 DNA is the most complex molecule in the universe
 Average person has 50 trillion cells in their body and
each cell has 46 DNA strands
 One person’s DNA genetic information is 123 billion
miles long and could extend to the moon and back 60
times!
•
 Typing the code in your DNA would fill enough books
to fill the Grand Canyon 78 times
Keep in mind that a TRILLION is 10 to the 12th
power
•
The chance of having 149 amino acids in the
proper sequence is 1 in 10 to the 74th power
 Darwin saw the cell as a very simple mass
 He saw a cell as a “Buick” as compared to a celestial
Galaxy
DNA has 149 amino acids that must come together in
proper sequence in order to function. The probability of
this happening by chance is 1 in 10 to the 74th power.
 As a “mud hut” compared to a “Saturn Five” rocket
 “The cell is a world that Darwin never could have
imagined”
 A Gigabyte of information is stored in every DNA
Chromosome
 The DNA has all the information needed to grow a
human body and all it’s parts
 Each cell makes exact copies of your DNA for the
“new” cell
 Right now there are billions of these “DNA copy
machines” in your body making copies of your DNA
 The DNA strand is separated
 One side has to be copied backwards
 The new strands are then brought back together
You are making billions of new cells all over your body
every second of every day
•
The chance of having all 149 amino acids with
the correct linkage is 1 in 10 to the 45th power
Then, each amino acid must have the correct linkage.
(Each of the 149 links has a 50/50 chance of being
incorrect.) The chance of all 149 amino acids linking up
correctly by chance is 1 in 10 to the 45th power.
• The chance of having all 149 amino acids to be left
handed is 1 in 10 to the 45th power
Each of the 149 amino acids must be “left handed”.
(Each of the 149 links has a 50/50 chance of being “right
handed”.) The chance of all 149 amino acids being “left
handed” by chance is 1 in 10 to the 45th power.
• The chances of having 149 amino acids make up a
functional protein necessary for a living cell is 1 in
10 to the 164th power
DNA communicates with all your cells
What are the chances to form one functional
protein for a living cell?
• There have been 10 to the 16th number of seconds
since the Big Bang 4 billion years ago.
• Only 10 / 139 events since the beginning of the
Universe
Intelligent Design
Consider the word game of Scrabble as an example. Let's
grant that the board and letter pieces exist. Try tossing them
into the air and see how they land. You certainly wouldn't
expect all the letters to land in place on the board, arranged
in correctly spelled words. Yet that, in essence, is what
evolutionary theory asks us to believe. To achieve an
arrangement of a series of meaningful words requires the
assumption of an intelligent cause. An outside cause must
sort and place the pieces in a meaningful order.
Did the origin of life happen by chance?
No serious scientist thinks this is the way
it happened.
Albert Einstein, one of the most respected scientist of
all time says there has to have been Intelligent Design
After years of study into the structure and origin of the
universe, he acknowledged that "the harmony of natural law
reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, compared
with it, all the systematic thinking and acting of human
beings is an utterly insignificant reflection" (The Quotable
Einstein, Alice Calaprice, editor, 1996, p. 151).
