INVISALIGN
Take Home Tips
1.
Success depends upon your cooperation. Wear your aligner(s) 22-23 hours per day, removing
them only to eat or drink hot beverages and anything other than water. You need to wear each
aligner a minimum of 300 hours before changing to the next aligner.
2.
Brush your aligners with toothpaste and soft bristle toothbrush prior to inserting the aligners.
3.
Wear your aligner(s) a minimum of 2 weeks unless other wise instructed. When the aligners are
changed too frequently the teeth might not move correctly.
4.
Some times a new aligner may not fit completely on the back teeth. Most of the time the aligner
will seat itself in a couple of days.
5.
It is advisable to occasionally bite down and make contact with your top and bottom aligners as
this will help to seat the aligner and improve teeth movement.
6.
Keep all your past aligners since there are times when it is advisable to go back and wear a
previous aligner if the teeth are not tracking (moving) properly.
7.
If an attachment comes off during treatment, please notify us in advance of your next
appointment so we can be prepared. We will determine whether it is necessary to replace it or
not.
8.
If your aligner cracks or is lost call our office, right away.
9.
Foods and drinks that contain high levels of sugar or potentially stain the teeth are to be avoided
during treatment.
10.
If your aligner has a sharp edge you can use an emery board to file down the rough areas.
11.
In certain crowded cases it is necessary to open the contacts between the teeth in order to gain
space and allow the teeth to move in the desired direction. This slenderizing process is a
relatively simple procedure and will be discussed in more detail at a future appointment.
12.
Most cases will benefit from attachments (tooth colored buttons) placed on certain teeth in order
to help control the desired movement of the teeth.
13.
Excessive missed or delayed appointments will extend treatment time and may incur additional
fees.
14.
At the conclusion of orthodontic treatment you will enter a “retention” phase, and will need to
wear retainers at night. Retention is a life-long commitment to maintain your improved smile.
15.
The majority of cases benefit from some additional aligners (refinements) after the initial set of
aligners. A new set of impressions might be necessary to ensure the best fitting aligners.
