Know three causes of WWI and WWII.
Define fascism communism and know the nations that used these forms of government.
Analyze three to five aspects of life in a trench during WWI.
Know what no man’s land is, and what going over the top means.
Know the names of the alliances and the major nations and the leaders of those nations that made up
those alliance of WWI for the following years, 1915, 1918. Know the nations that made up the Triple
Alliance and the Triple Entente.
Pick three battles of WWI and analyze who fought in those battles, who won those battles, and why
they won those battles. Also analyze the impact of new technologies in the war in relation to causing
large amounts of death and destruction.
Know how WWI ended, and how Germany was impacted by the end of the war.
Know the cause of the Russian civil war
Know the major factions in the Russian civil war, the leaders of the Red Army, and who won the Russian
Civil War.
Analyze the purpose behind Joseph Stalin’s purges.
Know the names of the alliances and the major nations that made up those alliance of WWII for the
following years, 1940, 1944. You must tell me the names of the leaders for the UK, US, Germany, Italy,
Japan, and the Soviet Union.
Discuss how Hitler came to power in Germany in the 1930’s.
Define the word “Blitzkrieg” and be able to analyze how Germany used this strategy to quickly defeat
Poland and France.
Know who fought at the Battle of Britain, how it was fought, and who won the battle.
Know why Hitler decided to invaded the Soviet Union. Analyze how the Germans got off to a good start
but were stalled. Know what the battles of Stalingrad and Kursk were in relation to how they helped
change the tide of the war in the East.
Know the strategy behind the Air War. Be able to define total war and how the allied powers utilized
total war tactics.
Know the strategy behind the Allied D-day landings. Be able to discuss the different things a paratrooper
might have experienced compared to a foot soldier invading the beeches.
Know what the Battle of the Bulge was and why Hitler decided to launch this massive offensive. Know
the result of this battle.
Know what a member of the German national socialist party was called.
Define social Darwinism in relation to Hitler’s final solution.
What does the word Holocaust mean, and how does this meaning relate to what happened to the
Jewish people, and many other people of Europe from 1938-1945.
Describe the life of the prisoners of a concentration camp of your choice. This description needs to be
specific to that camp. You will need three to four discussion points.
Know what event brought an end to the war in Europe, and discuss how Germany was divided between
the allies.
Know what the allied strategy of “Island hopping” was. Know why it took so long for the American
soldiers to defeat the Japanese.
Defend your position on whether you think the dropping of the Atomic bombs on Hiroshima and
Nagasaki was necessary. Utilize three reasons to support your claim.
