Interesting Introduction!
How would you like to learn about giraffes? I
guarantee you'll get smarter. First of all, giraffes are my
favorite animal. I'll make sure that if you learn anything
it WILL be true. Well, I hope that you have a great time
learning and have fun.
What in the world is a
giraffe?
Have you ever wondered about giraffes? Do they hold any
world records? Giraffes are in world record books because they
are the tallest mammals in the world, and they are the fourth
heaviest mammals in the world. Female giraffes are very
protective of their calves. A giraffe has a thick coat of hair going
down it's back, that is called the mane. Are you as excited about
these mammals as I am?
Where do giraffes live?
(Biome)
Where do you find them? Giraffes need warmth, lots of trees,
and water. They live in hot savannas in southern Africa. Their
environment is intermediate between a grassland and a forest.
Savannas are located in dry tropics and subtropics. Ok. So you
know where they live. Let’s find out more. Ok?
Where do giraffes live?
(Habitat)
Giraffes live in savannas which are a flat type of grass land.
When you are looking at a savanna, you’ll see that they have a
few little ponds for drinking, some trees that have leaves for the
animals to eat, and some short or tall grass. Savannas are a good
place for giraffes to live in because it provides them with food and
other things they need to help them survive. So that is pretty much
where giraffes live and what the habitat looks like. I have one
more thing. Would you ever take a giraffe home? Well, would you?
What in the name of food
do giraffes eat?
Did you always wonder what giraffes eat ? Do they
eat other animals? Do they eat grass or trees? Well,
now is your chance to find out. Giraffes have very long
necks. Their long necks help them reach leaves on
high trees which they eat. Giraffes use their long legs
and long necks to stretch down low to eat grass and
drink water. Giraffes can go several days without
drinking water. Why you ask, because the leaves they
eat keep them hydrated. Did you know they also eat
insects and flowers? So pretty much, giraffes only eat
insects, grass, leaves, and flowers. They only drink
water and sometimes when they are calves, they have
to drink their mother’s milk.
Giraffe’s Predator!
Ah!!!! The predator of the giraffe is the lion. When a lion is
near a giraffe the giraffe usually fights back. The giraffe uses its
long two front legs to kick the lion and scare them away. The
giraffe could also use their two knobs on the top of their heads as
defense. Lions want to eat calves because they think their meat is
a lot more tasty. They want to eat calves because they are easier
to get to. Usually, the lion gets the giraffe before the giraffe gets
the lion. Well, its sounds good to the lions but me, not in this life
time.
How are giraffes adapted
to their environment?
Giraffes are highly adapted to their
environment. A giraffe neck is long so they can
eat leaves. Their body has long legs to help
them drink water from down below. They live in
a very safe and healthy environment to help
them grow up healthy and strong. I told you.
Giraffes are highly adapted to their
environment.
Interesting Facts
Well, do you want to learn some interesting facts about giraffes? I
know I do. A giraffe’s mouth has an 18 inch long blue-black
tongue. Pretty gross. Am I right? They can run more than 30 miles
per hour, isn't that fast? They do it so they can get exercise.
Giraffes are non-territorial, social animals. Male giraffes weight
span is between 2,400- 3,000 pounds. Female giraffes weight
span is between 1,600- 2,600 pounds. So those are just some
interesting facts about giraffes.
Curious Conclusion!
As you can see, giraffes are a wonderful animal
found in the savannas in Africa. They travel in large
unorganized herds in Africa's savannas and peacefully
graze in the soft grasses. The parents try to keep their
calves with protection. It doesn't matter how many
spots it has but they all have their own unique design.
Well, no matter where or who you are you can always
say “animal great animal.”
