• John Calhoun A leading politician and political theorist from South Carolina during the first half of the 19th century.
• John Marshall The Chief Justice of the United States (1801–1835) whose court opinions helped lay the basis for American
constitutional law and made the Supreme Court a coequal branch of government along with the legislative and executive
branches.
• John Randolph A Speaker of the House of Burgesses, an Attorney General for the Colony of Virginia, and the youngest son of
William Randolph and Mary Isham.
• John Winthrop (1587/8 – 1649) A wealthy English Puritan lawyer and one of the leading figures in the founding of the
Massachusetts Bay Colony, the first major settlement in New England after Plymouth Colony
• Judicial Review The doctrine under which legislative and executive actions are subject to review (and possible invalidation) by

• Non-Intercourse Act of 1809 A policy that lifted all embargoes on American shipping except for those bound for British or

• status quo ante bellum A Latin phrase meaning literally "the state in which things were before the war."
• Tecumseh Tecumseh (March 1768 – October 5, 1813) was a Native American leader of the Shawnee. He organized a large
tribal confederacy (known as Tecumseh's Confederacy) that opposed the United States during Tecumseh's War and the War of
1812.
• Tenskwatawa Tenskwatawa, (also called Tenskatawa, Tenskwatawah, Tensquatawa or Lalawethika) (1775 – November 1836)
was a Native American religious and political leader of the Shawnee tribe. He is also known as The Prophet or the Shawnee
Prophet.
