Goals: This series of lectures will enable the resident to know in depth:
1.
The concepts of bonding and banding in orthodontics.
2.
The indications of extraction and non-extraction treatments.
3.
The concept of serial extraction.
Objectives: At the end of this series, the resident should:
1.
Be proficient in the bonding and banding techniques, and know about the
different
changes in the techniques that might ameliorate the
treatment progress.
2.
Know the indications of extraction, and if so gauge the right teeth to be
extracted.
3.
Have in depth knowledge in the serial extraction concept, and be able to
judge the
exact timing to apply it.
4.
Be acquainted in the dealing with any clinical malocclusion after being
exposed to a
variety of challenging clinical cases.

COURSE DURATION AND SCOPE: This course is scheduled between Mid-December and February for the first year
residents. It is given every Wednesday at a 2-hour session from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m and imparts fundamental
knowledge on the techniques of bonding/banding, the indications of extraction, the concept and timing of serial
extraction, and presentations of challenging clinical cases.
POLICY ON EXAMINATIONS: A final examination covering this course will be given at the final examination in
July. During the course, any number of progress tests or assignments may be given. Their cumulative weight in
proportion to the final grade may not exceed 50%.
