Angle Relationships
Vocabulary Foldable
Directions: Please cut and glue your Unit 1
vocabulary terms on the outside of your foldable and
the definition on the corresponding inside flap. We will
add examples tomorrow in class. 
Parallel Lines
 Lines
in the same plane that NEVER
cross.
Perpendicular Lines
 Lines
that intersect to form right angles
Intersecting Lines
 Two
lines in a plane that cross each other
Transversal
A
line that intersects two or more lines
Complementary Angles
 Two
angles whose measures add up to 90
degrees
Supplementary Angles
 Two
angles whose measures add up to
180 degrees.
(When parallel lines are cut by a transversal,
the obtuse angles and the acute angles will form supplementary angles)
Congruent
 Having
the EXACT same size, shape, and
measure
Alternate Interior Angles
 Created
when a transversal crosses two
parallel lines. Each pair of these angles
are inside the parallel lines and on
opposite sides of the transversal.
Alternate Exterior Angles
 Created
when a transversal crosses two
parallel lines. Each pair of these angles
are outside the parallel lines and on
opposite sides of the transversal.
Vertical Angles
Angles that share a vertex,
but NO common sides
(they are across from each other)
Adjacent Angles
 Two
angles that share a common vertex
AND a common side
(they are beside each other)
Corresponding Angles
 Angles
that are on the same
side of the
transversal and have the same
measurement
angle
Same Side Interior Angles
 Angles
that are on the SAME SIDE of the
transversal and are INSIDE the parallel
lines
Same Side Exterior Angles
 Angles
that are on the SAME SIDE of the
transversal, and are OUTSIDE the parallel
lines
