PERFUSION RNSG 2539 Health Care Concepts 4 Concept – PERFUSION Concept Definition Perfusion is the flow of blood through arteries and capillaries delivering nutrients and oxygen to cells and removing cellular wastes. Exemplars Tetralogy of Fallot (Congenital) Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) Septal Defects (VSD) Coarctation of Aorta Dysrhythmias Myocardial Infarction (MI) Sudden Death Shock Aneurysms Objectives 1. Explain the correlation between the listed exemplars to the concept of Perfusion (including compromised antecedents, deficit in attribute measurement, negative consequences and interrelated concepts which may be involved). 2. Analyze conditions which place a patient at risk for Perfusion imbalance resulting in the listed exemplars. 3. Identify when Perfusion imbalance (negative consequence) is developing or has developed into the listed exemplars. 4. Apply the nursing process (including collaborative interventions) for individuals experiencing the listed exemplars. Sub-Objectives 1. Identify the diagnostics and laboratory tests used to identify Dysrhythmias, Myocardial Infarctions, and shock. 2. Compare and Contrast emergency treatment for atrial and ventricular Dysrhythmias. 3. Explain the correlation between dysrhythmias and myocardial Infarction. 4. Explain how Shock is influenced by dysrhythmias and myocardial infarction Prior to class Assignments Review the following content from previous courses Cardiac Anatomy and Physiology Perfusion Concept Analysis Diagram Readings/Viewings 1 PERFUSION See Blackboard for further reading assignment Internet: Dysrhythmias-Sudden Death (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_50jV3DKryQ) Myocardial Infarction (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BL92vtuj9nc) Shock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eipht99mh0g) Content Outline: Concept: Perfusion 1. Definition: Perfusion -The flow of blood through arteries and capillaries delivering nutrients and oxygen to cells and removing cellular waist. Sub-Concepts o Pump Performance – Cardiac Output: Stroke Volume x Heart Rate o Vascular Tone – Narrowing of arteries = increase resistance; dilated arteries = demand for increased circulating blood volume. Veins are capacitance vessels. o Volume – Circulating blood volume = Plasma, different types of blood cells, and proteins. Proteins maintain the oncotic pressure and prevent the third spacing of circulating blood volume. 2. Antecedents Functioning Cardiopulmonary System Adequate Fluid Volume Free from clots and Atherosclerotic Blocks 3. Risk Factors 4. Correlation of exemplars Tetralogy of Fallot (Congenital) o Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) o Septal Defects (VSD) o Coarctation of aorta Dysrhythmias -Sudden Death o Interrelated Concepts – Clotting, Pain, Inflammation, Mobility, Patient Education Myocardial Infarction (MI) o Interrelated Concepts – Clotting, Pain, Inflammation, Gas Exchange, Mobility, Cognition, Elimination, Tissue Integrity, Patient Education Shock o Interrelated Concepts – Pain, Inflammation, Gas Exchange, Mobility, Cognition, Elimination, Fluid & Electrolytes, Patient Education Aneurysms J: Level IV Concepts/Syllabus 2017 11/11/16 2
