Instructional Technology and Media Services Dr. Sandra D. Andrews Director of Instructional Technology and Media Services Public Information Offices Ext: 30177 [email protected] Ethel Gaston Administrative Assistant Ext: 30175 Instructional Technology and Media Services advocates the integration of technology into classroom instruction and the use of a wide variety of resources, including e-books, online databases, and audio-video resources to engage students and support instruction. The department supports media coordinators, media programs, and the implementation of instructional technology initiatives. Administrators can request equipment and software consultation and quotes. Training on instructional technology, copyright, resource use, reading motivation, as well as other topics related to the field can be requested. The district and school websites are supported through the department. Webmasters are supported with training and a small stipend. Resources Schoolwires – www.lcsnc.org – Each school has a website with school information and class webpages. Teachers should be expected to populate and maintain a website for communication with parents and students. Gale Professional Development Resources – A collection of e-books that can be used with teachers in PLCs and for professional growth. Extraordinary Technology – A district technology conference was held in 2015. Resources and session handouts are available on the conference website. Canvas – Canvas is a Learning Management System that allows the creation of online and blended classes. Canvas is available for all secondary school teachers and students. Google Classroom can be used by K-5 teachers and students. Media Coordinator Evaluation The Media Coordinator Evaluation Instrument was adopted in 2013. Every media coordinator should be evaluated using the new instrument. NCESS has developed a wiki that includes information on the evaluation of all support staff including media coordinators. Documents on the site include: Evaluation Process Users Guide Professional Development Plan Record of Evaluation Activities Rubric for Self-Assessment/Evaluation Summary Rating Form (required) Summary Rating Form (optional) Evaluation Instrument Tutorial Evaluation Instrument Professional Development The Media Coordinator Evaluation Instrument is available on NCEES. Digital Learning and Media Inventory The Digital Learning and Media Inventory is a required report each school year. It replaces the Annual Media and Technology Report. DLMI All NCTL data stewards at both the district and school level (including school principals) will need an NCID to log in. Pam McBryde serves as the NCID coordinator for our district. The Digital Learning and Media Inventory is a legislatively mandated instrument, provides data on school media and technology programs to school, district, and state level stakeholders. The information is based on the school and district level media and technology inventories on July 1 of each year. This report gives both the legislature and the public a yearly snapshot of the state of media and technology programs in North Carolina's schools. Equipment Repair and Discards Repairing Computers, Laptops, Tablets, Printers Call ITS at 20043 to report computer problems. Before you call, make a note of the service tag number (usually located on the top of the tower), the room number and teacher’s name. In many instances, ITS can do computer repairs remotely. If additional assistance is needed and the problem can be resolved with the help of the school tech facilitator, the facilitator will be notified by ITS to make the repair after school. If the repair requires a replacement part or other repair, ITS will have to place a work order and the repair will be made when the ITS team visits the school. Teachers and administrators call ITS to report computer problems and the same steps are followed. ITS makes the decision to discard equipment. Notify the person in your building who is responsible for the fixed assets inventory before materials are removed from your school. Notify AMTR and Fixed asset inventory manager before moving equipment from the room listed.
