 Hydrologic Cycle (water cycle) is the
constant movement and endless recycling of
water between the atmosphere , above and
under the ground

 Carbon is an essential organic compound and an
important ingredient in living tissue.
 Carbon can be found in the atmosphere through plant,
root and animal (including decomposers) respiration,
burning and auto and factory emissions.
 Carbon can leave the cycle by being buried and
turning into fossilized coal or oil. But can be put back
in through the burning of fossil fuels.
 Nitrogen makes up 78% of our atmosphere
 Important nutrient for all living things in protein
formation.
 Nitrogen fixing bacteria found in soil and some plants,
nitrifying algae and lightning can take nitrogen out of
the atmosphere.
 Denitrifying bacteria release nitrogen back into the
atmosphere.

 Note: If the Earth did not rotate and remained stationary,
the atmosphere would circulate between the poles (high
pressure areas) and the equator (a low pressure area) in a
simple back-and-forth pattern. But because the Earth
rotates, circulating air is deflected.
 Earth’s rotation- adds an apparent
sideways motion to objects moving
over the Earth’s surface.
Pilots need to correct their flight
path based on the earth rotating
under the airplane, which is the
Coriolis effect.
In the inertial frame of
reference (upper part of
the picture), the black
object moves in a
straight line. However,
the observer (red dot)
who is standing in the
rotating frame of
reference (lower part of
the picture) sees the
object as following a
curved path.
