FORENSIC CAREERS Tommy KY . FORENSIC FIREARMS EXAMINER Forensic Fire arms Examiners are holders of Bachelor’s of Science degree in various fields including Criminal Justice but has a better learning in firearms and weapons. These criminalist use weapons to compare to the weapon being use in the scene and use comparison microscope to collect evidentiary samples. These scientist will enter firearm data into the IBIS, a national identification and tracking system. FORENSIC LATENT PRINTS These highly trained criminalists are holders of B.S. Degrees in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Forensic Science and other areas but have demonstrated better results towards investigations. These criminalist respond to crimes scenes, investigates, collect and analyse items such as finger prints, tire tread marks and foot wear impressions, they also attend to dead bodies. FORENSIC TOXICOLOGY Criminalists in the toxicology unit are normally holders of B.S to Ph.D. degrees in physical science. These highly trained scientists examine blood, urine and other body fluids or tissues for drugs or poisons. These scientist uses highly sensitive gas chromatograph mass spectrophotometers, liquid chromatography, fluorescent polarization immunoassay technology, and head –space gas chromatography. FORENSIC CHEMIST Forensic Chemists are normally holders of B.S. Degrees in chemistry. These highly trained scientists identify hard controlled substances to include prescribed drug being use illegally. These scientist receive additional training from the federal DEA. State Forensic Chemists often work closely with the Federal DEA.
