Math III Common Core Curriculum Map 2012-2013
Common Core Unit Name:
Unit Number: 8
Probability and Statistics
Enduring Understanding:
Students will take their enduring understandings of measures of central tendency, variations, distributions and continue to use them in their Math 4 class.
Students will continue to use graphs, diagrams, and statistics in future courses to model the real world.
Students will continue to use probability in their next math and one real world example would be weather. Students will look at data and critique the reasoning of
others when determining if the conclusion has integrity.

Essential Questions
S.ID.4 Can I use the mean and standard deviation of a data
set to fit it to a normal distribution?
S.ID.4 Can I use the mean and standard deviation of a data
set to estimate population percentages?
S.ID.4 Can I recognize data sets that don't fit the normal
distribution curve?
S.ID. 4 Can I use appropriate technology(calculators,
spreadsheets, and tables) to estimate the areas under
normal curves?
S.IC.3 Can I recognize the differences among sample
surveys, experiments, and observational studies and explain
how randomization relates to each?
S.IC.3 Can I recognize the purpose of sample surveys,
experiments, and observations and explain how
randomization relates to each?
S.IC.1 Can I understand that statistics is a process for
making inferences about populations parameters based on
a random sample from the population?
S.IC.5 Can I use data from a randomized experiment to
compare two treatments?
S.IC.5 Can I use simulations to decide if differences
between parameters are significant?
S.IC.6 Can I evaluate reports based on data?
S.IC.4 Can I use data from a sample survey to estimate a
population mean or proportion?
S.IC.4 Can I develop a margin of error through the use of
