Double degrees

Studying a double

to increase your career
options. You’ll graduate
with two qualifications
and a unique skill set
that will set you apart
from the rest.
You can choose to combine two degrees
from related fields to become a specialist,
or degrees from different areas of interest
to broaden your options. With our extensive
range of study areas, you’re bound to find
a combination that’s right for you.

¡ I mprove your employment

* Graduate Careers Australia found in 2014 that
double degree graduates are more likely to get
a job than single degree graduates.
How does it work?
When you study a double degree, you’ll
complete the two degrees concurrently,
usually over four or five years, saving
you time and money. As a double degree
graduate, you’ll receive two degree
certificates—one for each qualification.
Final year capstone course
In your final year of study, you’ll complete
a capstone course that will bring together
the knowledge and skills you’ve gained in
each component of your double degree.
Hands-on industry experience
Our double degrees are structured to
include industry internships and work
placements, so you’ll make practical
connections within and between each
of your areas of study.
Accelerate your study
With our new 12-week three trimester
academic year, you may choose to
complete a double degree in the same
amount of time as a single degree by
taking courses (subject to availability)
in every trimester each year.
‘Completing a double degree at Griffith
increased my employability tenfold. I felt
confident when graduating that I had the right
mix of knowledge, skills and experience to
take the next step in my career.’
Through her double degree, Jackie Babbage had the chance to combine
business with creativity, and gain practical skills through an internship with
an app development company. She’s now using those skills daily in her job
at Riverlife, a popular Brisbane lifestyle and entertainment venue. In her
role, Jackie is involved in developing the company’s marketing strategy
and managing the online presence of all its associated brands.
Jackie Babbage – Bachelor of Digital Media/Bachelor of Business^
^ This degree has been replaced with the new Bachelor of Design/Bachelor of Business.

Growing up, Casey Macfarlane had always been interested in the environment,
but it wasn’t until she attended TSXPO in Brisbane that she realised how she
could make it a career. ‘A Griffith University professor was speaking about the
various forms of engineering taught at Griffith. Environmental engineering
appealed to me immediately,’ she said. She also had a strong interest in Japan
after studying Japanese in high school and completing a student exchange to
Tokyo. Now, she’s combined her interests—she’s studying a double degree in
environmental engineering and business management at Griffith and is on her
way to complete a semester of study at Hiroshima University as a recipient of
a 2016 New Colombo Plan scholarship.
Casey Macfarlane – Bachelor of Engineering (Environmental Engineering)/
Bachelor of Business (Management)
After identifying the wide-ranging
opportunities a double degree could
offer, sports enthusiast Carlo Alimboyong
combined a business degree with a major
in sport management with a degree in
exercise science.
Carlo says he’s gained an appreciation
of how sport management relates to
the not-for-profit sector and sport at
a grassroots level. He also enjoys the
spread-out workload of a double degree.
‘It’s a good balance,’ he said.
Carlo Alimboyong – Bachelor of
Exercise Science/Bachelor of Business
‘I would like to open and run my own clinical
practice in the future, and my double degree has
given me a greater understanding of what’s
involved from a business point of view.’
