September 12th – 16th in Mrs. Porter’s Honors & Gifted History Class Chapter 1: The Rise of Civilization (Prehistory-c.2300 B.C.) Chapter 1 Test: Friday, September 16th Day Monday Tuesday In Class We Will: Discuss how the Neolithic Revolution led to the first civilizations. Examine the evidence found in the Neolithic village of Catalhuyuk. Discuss how physical geography impacted the development of Sumerian civilization. Wednesday Discuss how religious beliefs affected the organization of Sumerian society. Thursday Compare and contrast Sumerian civilization with modern society in the United States. Review Early Humans, the Neolithic Revolution, and Mesopotamia. Take the Chapter 1 Test. Preview the areas we’ll learn about in the Spread of Civilizations. Friday On Your Own, Please: Read Chapter 1, Lesson 3: Mesopotamia. Catch up on your Chapter 1 foldable notes. You have learned that Sumer possessed the six major characteristics of civilization. For homework, choose one of these six characteristics and write a one-page essay or create a chart in which you compare and contrast that aspect of Sumerian civilization with the corresponding aspect of modern society in the United States.
