Section 6.5 ~ Prove Triangles Similar by SSS and SAS
Topics in this lesson:
• SSS Similarity
• SAS Similarity
Objective: To use SSS and SAS Similarity
to identify similar triangles and find the
measurement of triangle components.
SideSideSide Similarity Theorem (SSS)
If the corresponding side lengths of two triangles are proportional, then the triangles are similar.
*The best way to decide similarity with SSS is to compare the shortest sides, longest sides, and remaining middle sides.
Example 1
Example 2
Find the value of x that makes ΔABC ~ ΔDEF.
SideAngleSide Similarity Theorem (SAS)
If an angle of one triangle is congruent to an angle of a second triangle and the lengths of the sides including these angles are proportional, then the triangles are similar.
Example 3
In the diagram, ΔACE ~ ΔDCB. Find the length of AB.
Example 4
Find the values of the variables that make ΔABC ~ ΔDEF.
