ADDENDUM TO COURSE OUTLINE OF RECORD LASC STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES MATRIX Course Name & Number:_________Electronics 8______________________________ Faculty Participants:_________Prof. Neil Mantena_____________________________ Approved by: SLO Committee Chair____________________________________________________________________Date_______________ Department Chair________________________________________________________________________Date_______________ Curriculum Committee Chair_______________________________________________________________Date_______________ The student will… (learning outcome—identify at least 2 SLOs) As measured by the following method…. (assessment strategy) 1. Draw a full sketch of a common-emitter amplifier showing the transistor, with its three terminal-leads, collector supply voltage, voltage-divider bias (with two resistors), active load, emitter and collector resistors (3), Coupling capacitors (2), two input and two output terminals for a total of seventeen elements (including the structural frame of the sketch) 1. Embedded in the quizzes and exams and measured by comparing with a standard schematic diagram showing all of the seventeen elements of a common-emitter amplifier. Scored by the correct ID of the elements shown of a commonemitter amplifier: 14 to 17 elements are correct: Well done. 10 to 13 elements are correct: Satisfactory. 9 or less elements are correct: Unacceptable. * It is expected that at least 60% of the class will pass. Adopted by LASC Academic Senate, 9/14/10 And, if applicable, scored by the following learning rubric. (provide attachment) Results are examined to determine if the outcome is achieved. Include planned or actual assessment date. (include results & evaluation if already assessed) 1.Assessed during Fall 2010 with a student population size ranging between 17 and 22. The results are positive: The success rate was 73%. 2. Plan to assess again in Fall 2011 and Fall 2012. Recommendations to improve teaching and learning. (include planned modifications if assessment results have already been analyzed) It is possible to step up the Success rate by going the extra mile in the teachinglearning cycle: Teach the key concepts in more innovative ways like drawing a simple block diagram and adding pieces (like in a LEGO puzzle) in each BLOCK to make it a Fun learning experience. 2. Draw the schematic symbols for NPN and PNP transistors; label the three terminals as emitter, base, and collector. 2. Embedded in exams and final exam. 4 pts for NPN/PNP 6 pts for terminal labeling Desired outcome: At least 60% of class score at least 70% or better. Adopted by LASC Academic Senate, 9/14/10 2. Assessed in Fall 2010 with student population ranging between 17 and 22 with a success rate of 82%. Plan on assessing again in Fall 2011 and 2012. The results are good as they seem to indicate. It is now Proposed to maintain these results on a consistent basis.
