EAST ALLEN COUNTY SCHOOLS Bundle 4 Geometry Trigonometry Big Idea: Surveyor Enduring Understandings Essential Questions Area of a retular polygon can be found by knowing the length of the side and the number of sides. Right triangles can be used to find the length of sides and angle measures. Basic trigonometry functions can be used to determine missing parts of triangles. Area of scalene triangles can be determined through the use of trigonmetry functions. CC/Learning Targets G.SRT.6 G.SRT.7 G.SRT.8 G.SRT.9 G.SRT.10 G.SRT.11 How can similar right triangles be used to define basic trigonometry functions? How can the height and distance of objects that are not measureable be determined? How is the area of a regular polygon determined? What are the special relationships of angles and sides in triangles? Core Vocabulary Links to Technology cosine hypotenuse regular polygon sine tangent Bundle Performance Task(s) Each member of your group will be required to design one putt-putt hole for a miniature golf course. Your design must have at least one obstacle and a bank shot or two obstacles for the path of the ball from the tee to the hole. Your project will need to include the following: • A scale drawing of each hole • A model of one hole (the group will vote on the hole to make as a model, use a shoe box, wood, Styrofoam whatever works best) • Calculate area and perimeter • Indicate the scale One member of your group will be responsible for the design of the model, marketing, accounting and technical support (make a power point). Geometry Bundle 4 Quarter 2 Nov.-Dec. Geometry CC/Learning Targets G.SRT.6 (G.5.3a-d) (G.5.4a,b,e) (G.5.5a-b) (G.5.6b) Understand that by similarity, side ratios in right triangles are properties of the angles in the triangle, leading to definitions of trigonometric ratios for acute angles. G.SRT.7 (G.5.3a-d) (G.5.4a) (G.5.5a-b) (G.5.6b) Explain and use the relationship between the sine and cosine of complementary angles. G.SRT.8 (G.5.1b) (G.5.3a-d) (G.5.4b) (G.5.6a-b) Use trigonometric ratios and the Pythagorean Theorem to solve right triangles in applied problems. G.SRT.9 (G.4.7d) (G.5.2a) Derive the formula A = 1/2 ab sin(C) for the area of a triangle by drawing an auxiliary line from a vertex perpendicular to the opposite side.
