Department of Curriculum and Instruction FBISD Geometry At-a-Glance Course Description: This course is an introduction to plane, solid, and coordinate geometry as a deductive science. It builds on algebraic foundations and connects to the real world through a variety of applications and settings. Students have regular and appropriate access to technology as they work with geometric constructions, coordinate graphing, algebraic analysis, and computation. Students do research on special topics in the honors class. * Logical Reasoning and Transformations are embedded throughout the curriculum Grading Period Unit Name * Logical Reasoning Grading Period 1 Points, Lines, Planes and Angles Parallel Lines and Angle Relationships Application of Slope, Equations of Lines (including Parallel and Perpendicular Lines) Application of Slope, Equations of Lines (including Parallel and Perpendicular Lines) Angles, Triangles, and Polygons Grading Period 2 * Transformations and Symmetry Ratios, Proportions and Similarity Congruence in Triangles (including Special Segments) Inequalities in Triangles Right Triangles and Applications of Right Triangles Grading Period 3 Quadrilaterals ( spiral with the equation lines) Area: Regular Polygons, Circles, Composite Figures (Including Dimensional Change and Geometric Probability) 3-D Views, Nets and Cross-sections Grading Period 4 Surface Area and Volume Circles Enrichment and SAT/ACT topics Textbook: Prentice Hall Mathematics: Texas Geometry Author: Dan Kennedy; Laurie E.
