
ACHIEVEMENTS:
-
BI functional requirements, technical architecture and development of Candorsys, a highly
complex, web-based, financial asset aggregation OLAP database. Working closely with a
former head of IT for UBS Private Bank in Europe.
The application imports portfolio holding data from multiple investment houses into a SQL
Server 2005 relational database and enables the user to classify each asset according to
asset type, sector, market and currency. Different users of the system have access to one or
more portfolios, this security is passed through to the cube. Data is aggregated into an OLAP
cube and used by a suite of Reporting Services reports which are exposed via report viewer
controls in a .NET front end web site. The reports are designed to show high net worth
individuals their total asset value across their range of portfolios and let them drill down to
see their exposure by asset class, sector etc. Sophisticated algorithms enable them to
measure portfolio performance across date ranges and compare it to benchmark
performance. For more information see www.candorsys.com.
-
Installed and configured SQL Server database, Reporting Services and Integration services.
Set up database maintenance plans. Designed and developed databases and reports for
Aldwyck Housing Association’s data warehouse including key performance indicators.
Configured security so that users only have access to appropriate reports.
An overnight SSIS package imports new data from the LOB system to a dedicated reporting
server. A suite of reports are available for monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc reporting. A report
model allows a small number of ‘power users’ to generate their own ad-hoc reports.
-
Designed and implemented overall architecture for the OLAP database and reports used to
analyse the effectiveness of Christian Aid’s web site.
Every action on the web site is recorded in a metrics database. An overnight SSIS package
imports daily metrics data and incrementally updates the cube from the online metrics
database and the internal CRM application. A suite of reports enable users to measure the
performance of the web site and do like by like comparison of online and offline figures within
the same report.
-
Designed a highly complex SQL Server database used as a back-end for a combination of
web sites and offline publications including whatcar.com and What Car? magazine.
This high profile database architecture was designed to serve as a back end database for
www.whatcar.com, www.autocarmag.com, data tables in the What Car? Magazine, data
tables in Autocar magazine and other subsidiary publications and web sites including 3 rd
party feeds to the likes of AOL and Sainsburys Bank. I interviewed all the publishers and
editors as well as the staff responsible for collecting and updating the data before coming up
with a suitable design which replaced a collection of Access databases and spreadsheets. The
database was also designed to enable 3rd party suppliers to enter supplementary data such
as target prices and insurance groups via an extranet.
