Class Outline and Description 10th Grade Social Studies: World History, Geography, and Civics Teacher: Mr. Strong Mr. Strong’s Expectations: 1. Be Respectful 2. Be Responsible 3. Be Resourceful Grading Scale: 10-point scale as is in the student handbook Class Description: --In this class, we will discuss items from three different areas of Social Studies. We will begin the year by discussing a period of World History from the beginnings of human civilization through the Roman Empire. This portion of the class will last through the first semester (quarters 1 and 2). Second, we will discuss World Geography. This part of the class will include the 3rd quarter. To finish the year, we will discuss Civics. This is designed to be an introduction into American Government, and will take place throughout the 4th and final quarter. --Students will be expected to participate in daily class discussions and note-taking sessions. Worksheets, quizzes, and chapter tests will also be included for each chapter. You will also be expected to complete various research assignments and projects throughout the year. On Friday’s, students will be required to discuss and turn in a current event. Assignments and Make-up Work --You are expected to turn in all assignments when they are due, usually at the beginning of class. Failure to turn in homework when it is due will automatically become a 0. --Work missed due to an excused absence will need to be turned in within two days of returning to school. After two days missed homework will no longer be accepted. I realized that occasionally there are circumstances beyond your control. If this happens, you need to talk with me and we can work out a solution. Tentative Class Outline: A. World History 1. Human Beginnings 2. Early Civilizations 3. Empires of the Middle East 4. Northern Eurasia 3. Southwest Asia 4. Africa 5. East Asian and the Pacific World C. Civics 1. American society and values 2. America’s political history 3. Creating the Constitution 4. Bill of Rights 5. The three branches of our government
