 Both guests represent educational values inherent to IODP.
 Both guests raise the event to national prominence, and
indicate the drilling vessel’s role in the national agenda.
 Each GoH will be invited to bring their students to tour the
research vessel and meet the scientists who conduct scientific
ocean drilling operations.

• The JOIDES Resolution is a key tool in investigating
challenges related to Earth science, climate change, the
deep biosphere, and geodynamics.

• Extend invitations to Special Guests of Honor
• Notify White House of upcoming event to
honor the JR
• Prepare program of speakers for news event
• Invite all those connected to news event
• Distribute/post proclamation of
congratulations to legislators, dignitaries at
foreign embassies, White House, with
embargoed news release.
Work Plan 2/2
• Alert media to event and its scope. Build
online press kit.
• Plan onsite activities with scientists, students,
IODP resources; coordinate with Leslie Peart
and her team, and with UH team.
• Communicate plans to all IODP partners—
particularly Outreach and participants.
• Implement plans onsite on May 6.
