Zeus; King of the Gods
Do you really think about the life of the number one Greek god Zeus and the
incredible children he had? Zeus had many anonymous affairs with many women in
many different shapes and forms. Back in ancient times, people did not think of cheating
on a woman was bad but now in modern times we now see it as a wrong thing to do. Zeus
was considered to be the highest authority of ancient Greek Mythology and he is now
viewed as a massive philanderer and the change from ancient views to modern views is
that cheating on a woman is wrong in modern times but in ancient times it was rarely
thought of.
Zeus was depicted as a regal man, mature with a sturdy figure and a dark beard
(Atsma, Web). His usual attributes were the lightning bolt, royal scepter, and the eagle
(Atsma, Web). Zeus was the king of the gods, God of the Sky, God of Weather, God of
Law, and God of Fate (Atsma, Web) Zeus was a family man who had a weakness for
women like James Bond to any woman. Zeus’s main power and weapon was the dreadful
thunderbolt (Parada Web).

Zeus is now perceived as a massive philanderer and womanizer very much like
Gene Simmons of the band Kiss. He could be easily opposed and greatly deceived by
others. Zeus can change shape to hide his anonymous affairs outside of wedlock from his
wife. Zeus with a heart of stone sent his own son Hephaestus to Tarturus. Zeus was never
omnipotent or omniscient. His power was the most powerful than all the divinities
combined. Zeus’s roman name is Jupiter like the planet (Hamilton 27). Zeus became top
God after he defeated and killed his father Cronus. Zeus’s physical characteristics have
changed in films and story books. His personality has changed in the movie Hercules
(Appendix) with Zeus being more devoted to his wife Hera and Hera is Hercules’s
mother, and only one thing never changed which was his power which is the fear striking
Thunderbolt. Places and things in modern times where you can see the sacred symbol of
Zeus which is the eagle is the symbol of America (O’Connor 70). The eagle can be on
tattoos and it was also used on quite a few J.I. Case tractors and their signs.
The way we thought about Zeus in the ancient times has changed a lot in the
modern times. Think about how we view biblical stories in the eyes of the ancients like
God was the creator and now most of us believe in the theory of the Big Bang which
created the universe billions of years ago. Zeus is now viewed as a family man with a
dark side that he keeps dipping into. Zeus has his weaknesses and everyone has a
weakness if you think about it. The change of ancient views to modern views means that
Zeus used to be viewed as a majestic and great person but now we now think more about
what is right and what is wrong.

rarely thought of. I talked about the life of Zeus and his life and how he can be viewed in
modern times and the distant past. I wrote about places Zeus’s sacred symbol can be
found and I mentioned his strong points and weak points. I am glad that I can do a paper
on this man and I hope all of you will like it and read it with extreme enthusiasm.
