EXPLORER TRADING CARDS ASSIGNMENT
European explorers were treated like celebrities in their home countries for their
discoveries—much like athletes in America today. To better understand these historical
celebrities, you will create 4 trading cards to promote the glories of these explorers.
DUE DATE:
Step 1: Read about the explorers you have been given – use your textbook’s index or
the internet to locate them.
Step 2: Create an image for the FRONT of your trading card. Pick something that
relates to your explorer. Ex: Their Ship, Portrait, Paintings, etc. Don’t just draw a
picture of their country’s flag. WRITE THEIR NAME ON FRONT OF CARD!!!
Step 3: Add the following important stats to the BACK of your trading card about your
explorer.








Date of Birth & Death – when were they born? when did they die?
Country of Origin – what country were they born/lived in?
Year of Exploration – when did they travel?
Country Represented – which country did they travel for to the New World?
might be different from Country of Origin
Reason for Exploration – what were they looking for?
Places Explored – what places/countries did they travel to? List them.
New Discoveries – what discovery did they make that made them famous?
Names of Vessels – names of their ship/s
Step 4: Repeat Steps #1-3 for 3 more explorers. Each of the 4 explorers must be
representing a different country. (Spain, Portugal, England, France)
Step 5: You will be sharing your cards with your classmates in class to help each other
learn more about these celebrities.
Step 6: Make sure you attach a comprehensive list of sources for all your stats &
images.
