COMPUTER/NETWORK SUPPORT TECHNICIAN CONTRACT
July 1, 2012- June 30, 2014
The pay scale for the Computer/Network Support Technician position is tied directly to the skills
and responsibilities of the Technician. There are a total of eight 8 possible steps. Step “1”
consists of the minimum qualifications for this position. As a technician receives training and
exhibits consistent proficiency in an additional area of expertise, increasing their pay will reward
them by one (1) step. The Director of Technology/Information shall make this recommendation
to the Superintendent of Schools for the final determination. It is understood and agreed to,
that proficiency level increases will be limited to two increased levels per contract year.

NOTE: These rate increases will be retroactive to July 1, 2012.
*The attainment of Data Management Certification is worth two steps
on this pay scale.
The intent of these steps is, to both reward the technicians for their efforts to learn new
technologies as well as to give improvement incentives.
New employees may be placed on a step greater than “1” if they successfully
demonstrate the skills necessary to satisfy one of the additional competency levels.
WORK WEEK:
The normal full time workweek is considered a forty (40) hour week. In case of
an emergency, after normal work hours, any extra hours worked will be decided
by the Director of Technology or Superintendent of Schools. This time will be
compensated at a rate of time and one half or by compensation time in lieu of
hours paid, determined by the employee prior to working the extra hours.
SICK LEAVE:
Technicians are entitled to fifteen (15) sick days for the 2012-2013 & 20132014 school years. These days may accumulate to one hundred twenty (120)
days. These days are to be accrued and credited at the beginning of the
contract year. Technicians who have reached the maximum sick days (120)
shall still receive and be able to use their fifteen (15) days given annually;
however, at the end of that year, unused days will not be accumulated.
During the first year of employment, these days shall be prorated from date of
hire. Also, technicians are eligible for the school wide sick bank as out-lined in
the comprehensive teachers’ contract. It is also understood and agreed that six
of an employee’s sick days may be used to stay home and care for a member
of their immediate family. Immediate family is defined as: Husband, wife, son,
daughter, mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, grandson, granddaughter,
siblings, in law, step-relations or a member of the household.
PERSONAL LEAVE:
It is understood and agreed to that two sick days may be used for personal leave. Rules
and regulations for using these personal days are to be governed by the same rules and
regulations as appear in the comprehensive teachers’ contract.
BEREAVEMENT LEAVE:
Technicians shall be eligible for bereavement leave as outlined in the
comprehensive teachers’ contract.
HEALTH INSURANCE/DENTAL INSURANCE:
A. Technicians working a forty (40) hour week shall be entitled to insurance benefits.
Health insurance benefit shall be limited to a total of 80% of Anthem’s standard plan
for adult with child, based on a 183 day per diem rate prorated to 230 days and
dental insurance shall be equal to single person coverage. Any technician working
less than forty (40) hours per week will have this benefit pro-rated accordingly. The
dental insurance shall be Delta Dental Plan III.
EXTENDED BENEFIT:
A. Additional reimbursement benefit of $2,600 for the year 2012-2013 & 2013-2014, which may
be applied to an annuity, additional medical insurance premiums, medical expenses, life
insurance, child care, travel expenses incurred for family medical appointments, or
technology purchases with prior approval of the superintendent of schools.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
A. For computer Technicians matriculated in a degree program, the Board agrees to pay 90%
of the full cost for each three (3) credit course, including the cost of texts and fees as
determined by the University of Maine at Orono tuition rate as of September 1st each year;
tuition benefit applies to any accredited institution. These funds may be used toward tuition
and required course materials.
For Computer Technicians taking courses in a non-matriculated status, the Board agrees to
pay 60% of the full cost for each three (3) credit course, including the cost of texts and fees
as determined by the University of Maine at Orono tuition rate as of September 1st each
year; tuition benefit applies to any accredited institution. These funds may be used toward
tuition and required course materials. Course reimbursements will not exceed actual costs.
B. Payment shall be made subject to the following conditions:
1. All courses must be approved in advance by the Superintendent of schools on
forms provided by the Superintendent.
2. Payment shall be made upon the completion of three (3) credits within thirty (30)
days after transcripts are submitted to the office of the Superintendent. If the
employee arranges with the accrediting school to accept advance payment
directly from the Board the Board will make such an arrangement. If the
employee receives no course credit for any reason, the Board, depending on
circumstances, has the right to withhold from the employee’s periodic wage
payment an amount of money that will reimburse the Board for its prepayment.
3. If subsidy is received from other sources and does not total the applicable figure
in Section A above, the difference will be made up by the Board.
VACATION:
Technicians shall accrue vacation time at the equivalent of two (2) weeks per
contract year during their first two years of employment. On the third
anniversary date of their hire this accrual rate will increase to the equivalent of
three weeks vacation. The weeks of vacation will be pro-rated based on a
forty (40) hour workweek.
After attaining two (2) additional steps beyond where they were placed on the
pay scale when hired, the technicians shall be entitled to an additional one (1)
week of vacation. Their vacation accrual rate will be adjusted accordingly at
the time of attaining two additional steps. After fifteen (15) years of
continuous service to Waterville Public Schools, technicians will receive an
additional week of vacation.
It is understood and agreed to that seven (7) days of unused vacation time
may be carried forward to the next year.

MILEAGE:
Computer Technicians will be allowed a $400 travel allowance for miles driven
within the community. Miles driven outside the community will be paid at the
same rate as the comprehensive teacher contract.
LONGEVITY:
Employees who have accumulated the following years of continuous service with the
Winslow Public Schools shall be entitled to the following compensation in salary paid
in 22 equal installments effective on the anniversary date of each employee and shall
be prorated accordingly. Should the employee choose to receive the longevity
compensation in 2 equal installments, then it is the responsibility of the employee to
notify the Payroll Administrator prior to September 1 of each year. Computer
Technicians working 30 or more hours per week will be considered full time and be
credited one year towards longevity. Computer Technicians working less than 30
hours per week but more than 15 hours per week will be credited ½ year towards
longevity. Computer Technicians working 15 hours or less will not be eligible for any
credit towards longevity.

RETIREMENT:
Employees may access a 403B annuity plan of their choice with the proper salary
reduction agreement in place as required by federal regulations.

Computer/Network Support Technician
Job Description
This position is a member of the Technology Department of Winslow Public Schools and
reports directly to the Director of Technology. The hours for this position will average 40 per
week and are not expected to exceed this. There may be times when a technician is expected
to work more than eight hours in a given day if such a need arises.
Minimum Qualifications:
College degree in computer science or a related field. Experience supporting computer
networks may be substituted for education.
Following is a list of the primary duties and responsibilities associated with the
Computer/Network Support Technician position;
Step 1:
- Provides primary support to end users of all PCs and Macintosh desktop computers.
- Troubleshoots all hardware and software problems and takes appropriate action to resolve the
issues.
- Recommends purchasing of parts needed to support existing equipment.
- Install configures and supports software on all client desktop computers.
- Diagnoses and resolves issues relating to the following operating systems; DOS 5.0 & higher,
Windows 98 & higher, and MAC OS 8 & higher.
- Resolves printing problems across the network
- Conducts end user training, usually one on one or small groups, on hardware and software
use.
- Assists other Technology Department employees with tasks that may not be listed above but
are duties assigned to the Technology Department.
- Studies articles, and attends seminars, workshops, conferences, and vendor training
programs in order to maintain knowledge of applicable concepts and technology
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology
As the Computer/Network Support Technician receives training in and becomes proficient in
each of the following areas they may be upgraded one step on the pay scale. There are a total
of 8 steps. For each additional step the Computer/Network Support Technician will assume the
responsibilities that correspond to the skills. It is expected that a minimum of one step will be
achieved for every year of service. Steps may be granted no more than two per fiscal year per
employee, at the discretion of the Director of Technology to Technicians that have exhibited
competencies in any of the following categories;
A. Administration of Novell file servers (version 3.1* through IntranetWare) including but
not limited to, installation of new servers, security, user accounts, disk space
management, applications, backups, and print services.
B. Administration of Windows NT file servers including, but not limited to, installation of
new servers, managing IIS, management of all NT domain services and security, user
accounts, disk space management, applications, backups, and print services.

C. Demonstrates proficiency in physical network design, installation and support including,
but not limited to cat 5 and fiber wiring, data jacks, 10 and 100 base T hubs, phone &
modem lines, and cable TV distribution.
D. Administration of FirstClass server and SMTP gateway including but not limited to user
accounts, privilege groups, conferences, gateways, Web Interface, form creation &
distribution, and remote access support.
E. Administrator of all Web Services including but not limited to DNS, bootp, DHCP, MX
Records, WWW pages, WWW applications, TCPIP routing, UNIX Linux server
administration and backups.
F. Administration of Sprint voice communication system including, but limited to
maintenance of sprint hardware, installation and configuration of expansion equipment,
backup of system data, maintenance of extensions and routing tables, and
administration of voice mail system.
G. The Creative Resource level would be responsible for the implementation and support of
all creative needs on a district-wide/city level. Responsibilities would include support all
district web pages, web design, graphic arts, digital media (audio, video, photography),
as well as, to serve in an advisory capacity on the purchase of equipment and software
directly related to this department.
H. Data Manager is responsible for maintaining all WPS student and staff data systems.
This would involve the day to day management of all data exchanges between the
following systems; Student Information System (SIS) , Maine Education Data
management System (MEDMS), Food Service Automation System, Transportation
Automation System, Library Automation system, On Line Grade Reporting System. This
position would also provide guidance to ensure that WPS achieves and maintains a
culture of quality data.

To receive certification and associated pay increase for Creative Resources Support a Computer/Network
Support Technician must exhibit the ability to carry out the following functions or competencies on a daily
basis with no supervision;
□ Solid working knowledge of all, but not limited to, district owned digital graphic arts software programs
□ Understanding and ability to utilize Adobe PhotoShop for a number of applications as they relate to
digital graphic arts especially related, but not limited, to: web design, print media, and digital video
□ Understanding of Adobe PageMaker and its use for page layout especially related, but not limited, to

Cinema, and Apple’s iMovie
□ Understanding and ability to utilize Microsoft PowerPoint for creating presentations and the ability to
integrate other media such as video and audio
□ Understanding and support of both Macintosh and PC hardware internal and external devices as it
relates to all creative resource needs especially related to but not limited to: Scanners, digital still
cameras, digital video cameras, computer to TV converters, CD writers, printers, web cams, and LCD
projectors
□ Ability to research and make recommendations for the purchase of hardware and software items related
to the needs all of creative resources
□ Ability to make recommendations and coordinate a unified look for district web pages
□ Ability to coordinate monthly web masters’ meeting
