Sensus Distribution Automation
 Distribution Automation (DA): Provides head end
system and endpoints that enable a utility to remotely
monitor, coordinate, and operate automation
components in a real-time mode from remote locations.
– DA Endpoints monitor/control field equipment
– Information is reported to Host System using FlexNet or
Cellular radios
– Information is made available to utility user via a DA head
end system or through the utility’s SCADA system
– Commands/Requests can be sent at any time to the
Endpoints
– Interfaces to any 3rd party intelligent electronic devices
that communicate via DNP3 or Modbus

RTM II – How It Works
 Programmed with a profile detailing the
relevant points on the IED as well as
how the user wants the data to be
reported.
 Constantly polls the IED to get the latest
data.
 When it discovers a reportable event, it
initiates a report over the radio network
to the DA head end
 The data is validated, acknowledged,
and processed for distribution to the
end user.
 Control and configuration information
can be sent from the end user back to
the IED as well.

DA Configurator Software



Sensus DA Configuration software
is used to:
– Change configuration settings
– Retrieve and view the present
profile
– Choose a different profile
– Change communication settings
– Check radio signal strength
– Update firmware
The software includes default
profiles for each supported
integration.
Use a standard USB cable to
connect the RTM II and the PC
containing the DA Configuration
software.
