Every day, 60 New Zealanders will hear the words “you’ve got cancer”. Cancer Society wants to make sure no one goes through their cancer journey alone and that fewer people have to experience this in the future. Cancer Society provides free supportive care and accommodation to those going through cancer treatment; funds vital cancer research, and works to reduce cancer for future generations. “Power Up the Cancer Society” is a new initiative to install a power-saving solar power system on the Society’s Margaret Stewart House - which is at the heart of the care and support Cancer Society provides. This will help reduce power bills and free up money that can be channelled into core activities that have a direct and positive impact on people going through cancer. Supporters of the project include Mayor Celia Wade-Brown. “This is a great project, both environmentally and socially. It will enable the Cancer Society to save money and redirect some of its operational funds to expand supportive care and health promotion services to the people of Wellington. Solar panels also fit well in our Low Carbon Capital.” Power Up the Cancer Society... ...donate solar panels and help slash the Cancer Society’s power bills.
