Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers Cheat Sheet
Example 1: Write 2 ¾ as an improper fraction.

1. Draw a model to help you. I drew 2 wholes and then shaded in ¾.
2. Divide the 2 wholes into fourths. Remember, 4 fourths is equal to a whole.
3. Count up the number of fourths you have.
4. Write the mixed number as an improper fraction.

1. Count by 8’s until you get to a number that’s above 25.

I counted by 8 four times. So, I’m going to draw 4 wholes.
2. Draw 4 wholes.
3. Divide each whole into eighths.
4. Shade in 25 eighths. Count up the wholes.
I count 3 wholes and then
left over.
