The CCSU Department of Anthropology is pleased to announce
The 2016-2017 Call for Applications for
The Kiyomi Kutsuzawa Scholarship in Anthropology
Kiyomi Kutsuzawa was a graduate of CCSU Anthropology who received her PhD in 1998
from the University of Connecticut. Her dissertation was entitled, " GENDER, WORK,
AND THE POLITICS OF IDENTITY: WORK COLLECTIVES AND SOCIAL ACTIVISM AMONG
MIDDLE-CLASS HOUSEWIVES IN CONTEMPORARY JAPAN.” Kiyomi was an unflagging
supporter of our department and discipline. She passed away in February, 2005.
The Anthropology department is awarding two of these scholarships this year, 20162017. The scholarship consists of a stipend of $750, to be applied to fees, study abroad or
tuition. The scholarship is targeted to anthropology majors who show promise of outstanding
career potentials, with interests in gender, social activism, or cross-cultural understanding. To
apply for the scholarship email a current resume and 1-2 page letter discussing your
qualifications to Dr. Abigail E. Adams ([email protected]). Deadline is noon, October 26, 2016.
The Department also encourages additional donations to the Kiyomi Kutsuzawa Scholarship
Fund to assist future deserving students. You may contribute by writing a check to the CCSU
Foundation, Davidson Hall, 1615 Stanley Street, New Britain CT 06050, specified for the Kiyomi
Kutsuzawa Scholarship Fund, or participating in our Kiyomi auction, held every other year.
