The MOU was signed during the inaugural seminar on “Clean Development
Mechanism & Emissions Trading in Asia – Climate Change, Challenges and
Opportunities” organised by the UK Presidency of European Union and the
Singapore Association of
Environmental,
Occupational
Health
&
Safety
Companies (Safeco). Attended by about 100 participants and speakers from over
10 countries, the seminar addressed the different facets of climate change
including Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Renewable Energy, Clean Development
Mechanisms (CDM) as well as aspects of carbon emissions trading. Speakers
from the EU shared their experiences on the EU Emissions Trading Scheme since
its implementation in January 2005 and provided insights on the challenges
ahead.
About the International Partners (iPartners) Programme
6.
The MOU inked today by the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction (GHGER)
Group brings the number of iPartners alliances supported by IE Singapore to
sixteen. These sixteen alliances will benefit 86 Singapore-based companies, with
supported projects from diverse industries, including info-comms technology, food
services, airport services, exhibition and conference, logistics, and building and
infrastructure sectors. Their key target markets include the Asia Pacific region,
greater China, the EU, India, US and the Middle East.
7.
To encourage Singapore-based companies to band together when venturing
abroad, IE Singapore launched the International Partners Programme, or iPartners
Programme, in October 2003. The iPartners Programme is an initiative that
catalyses the formation of international alliances between Singapore-based
companies. By banding together while abroad, our companies can combine their
resources, complement each other's product offerings and pursue bigger projects.
These will sharpen companies' competitiveness and maximise their chances of
overseas success.
