Essential Question
• What is the minimum amount of information
needed to prove two triangles are congruent?
Recap Lesson 2:
• Please remind me about the triangles we were
drawing yesterday. What information did we
have about those triangles?
Challenge:
• I’ve drawn a secret triangle, and measured 2 of
the sides and all 3 angles.
• Do you think, with that information, that you
will be able to draw a triangle that exactly
matches mine? Or will some of our triangles be
different?
Challenge Problem
Create a triangle using the following measurements:
• mA = 53o
• mB = 37o
• mC = 90o
• m𝐴𝐵 = 10 cm
• m𝐴𝐶= 6 cm

Match My Triangle Game
• Secretly measure all the sides and angles of
your triangle.
Match My Triangle Game
Round 1:
Student A(Simon): Tell the other players some
of the measurements of the secret triangle. Make
sure to tell your classmates enough information
to draw congruent triangles.
Players: Create the triangle described by Simon.
Match My Triangle Game
Scoring Round 1:
Student A(Simon): 1 point if all the players
drew a triangle that is congruent to Simon’s
triangle.
Players: 1 point if you drew a triangle that is
congruent to Simon’s triangle.
Match My Triangle Game
Round 2:
Student A(Simon): Tell the other players a
different set of measurements than those used in
Round 1. The goal is to tell enough information
that the other players draw a congruent triangle.
Players: Create the triangle described by Simon.
Match My Triangle Game
Scoring Round 2:
Student A(Simon):
• O points if you gave them 6 measurements
• 1 point if you gave them 5 measurements
• 2 points if you gave them 4 measurements
• 3 points if you gave them 3 measurements
• 4 points if you gave them 2 measurements
• 5 points if you gave them 1 measurement
Match My Triangle Game
Scoring Round 2:
Players:
• 1 point if you drew a triangle that is congruent
to Simon’s triangle.
Or
• 3 points if your triangle matches all the
measurements Simon gave you but your
triangle is not congruent to Simon’s.
Match My Triangle Game
Round 3:
Players: Request exactly 3 measurements of
information from Simon. The goal is to request
three measurements that will not create a
triangle congruent to Simon’s.
Student A(Simon): Give the players the
information they requested.
Players: Create the triangle you requested.
Match My Triangle Game
Scoring Round 3:
Student A(Simon):
• 1 point if the triangle the players created is
congruent to Simon’s.
Players:
• 1 point if the triangle the players created is not
congruent to Simon’s.
