NewYork-Presbyterian Digestive Disease Services Affiliated with Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and Weill Cornell Medical College NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center 525 East 68th Street New York, NY 10065 NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Columbia University Medical Center 622 West 168th Street New York, NY 10032 OVERVIEW: e Digestive Disease Services of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital provide expert capabilities in research, education and clinical care of patients with gastrointestinal, liver and bile duct, pancreatic and nutritional disorders. e Hospital offers a wide range of diagnostic tests including, • Routine procedures, such as endoscopy, capsule endoscopy, colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy. • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) to evaluate the ducts of the gallbladder, pancreas and liver • Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS)to provide detailed images of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract and for the staging of patients with esophageal, gastric and rectal cancers. e Hospital is one of the few centers using EUS for needle aspiration of pancreatic cysts and tumors. • Laparoscopy for direct examination of the liver, gallbladder and spleen and in the diagnosis, staging and treatment of pancreatic, gastric, esophageal and colorectal cancer. e Hospital is a leader in treating gastrointestinal (GI) conditions. For example, • e Minimal Access Surgery Center (MASC) is at the forefront of developing and applying new technologies, such as robotics, computerized image processing and enhanced optics. It is improving the outcomes of GI surgical patients and speeding their recovery from conditions such as GERD, gallbladder disease, and benign and malignant colon and rectal disease. • Our surgeons also perform endoscopic sewing (endocinch) and radiofrequency treatment (Stretta procedure) for GERD. • Our surgeons are internationally renowned in the use of laparoscopic methods for cancer and other colorectal conditions. ey are highly experienced with the Whipple procedure to remove a pancreas tumor, which improves the survival rates and life expectancies of patients with pancreatic cancer and other less common pancreas problems. Additionally, our physicians are involved in numerous clinical trials, (including studies on Cox-2 inhibitors) for preventing colorectal cancer and familial polyposis (a precursor to colorectal cancer), and antiviral therapy for chronic hepatitis C.
