Insulin Pumps Kyle Gildea BME 181 Diabetes Statistics • • • • 23.6 million children and adults in the United States ~ 8% of the population—have diabetes. 10.9 million, or 26.9% of all people age 65 or older have diabetes 231,404 deaths in 2007 Diabetes is the leading cause of new cases of blindness among adults aged 20–74 years. What is Diabetes ? • • • Diabetes is a condition where the body is unable to regulate levels of glucose (a sugar) in the blood, resulting in excess glucose being present in the blood.
