RESEARCH INTERESTS
- Molecular investigation of MDR Gram negative bacteria (P.aeruginosa, Klebsiella, Acinetobacter).
- Molecular investigation of Chronic Viral Hepatitis. The Viral Hepatitis Reference Laboratory of
Southwestern Greece was founded in 1988 in the Department of Microbiology. From 1998 M.
Christofidou is responsible for this laboratory, where Chronic Hepatitis B and C is investigated (viral
load, genotypes, mutations and antiviral agents) by molecular methods.
- Molecular investigation of Superficial mycoses (Dermatophytes) and Systemic-opportunistic mycoses
(Candida, Cryptococcus, Mucor, Fusarium )
- Future plans include the investigation of new resistance mechanisms of MDR Klebsiella pneumoniae,
the identification of new mutations of HBV to drugs and the investigation of the in vitro new
antifungals.
