Grid Code Treatment
As per current Grid Code
requirements applicable to
Pumped Storage Power Stations
Battery would need be
considered as an VSC HVDC Unit
with requirements applying at
the point where it connects
within the power station
As per 2) above.
Issue/Comment
The connection
arrangements could be
complex (e.g. a connection
at the Generating Unit
Terminals or to a
Transformer tertiary would
mean that you have a BMU
within a BMU which could
cause commercial
difficulties.
Difficulties in incorporating
a battery / storage device
within a power park string.
This would have
complexities in terms of
obligations on the Power
Park Module and
obligations on the Storage
device.
A solution may be to
mandate that the Storage
device has to have its own
connection point and
cannot be integrated into
the power park module
but this could be complex.
There is also the risk of
having a BMU within a
BMU.

Battery would be treated in the
same way as a Voltage Source
HVDC Converter
As per 1) above
As per 1) above – assuming they
are connected to a synchronous
Generators
As per 4) above, but questions
remain on short energy duration
Multiple applications - Not

Supercapacitors
As per 4) above but questions
remain on short energy duration.
Note in all of the above cases, more detailed data submissions of the technologies would be required
under the Planning Code in addition to amendments to the Data Registration Code. This would be
necessary for modelling purposes which at the present time are quite limited.
