Course Objectives
The main learning objective of this subject is to give a broad overview on the financial phenomena of
the whole economy and especially its financial sector. The subject describes the operation of the
financial markets, the circulation of money in the economy, the working of fiscal and monetary policy.
The students will be able to understand the main financial process of the economy, and to calculate the
yield and price of the main investments.

Course Assignment
 Report on the financial system of a chosen country (40 points)
 Verbal exam – score 40 points
The report should be made by the end of teaching period.
Oral exam at the end of semester, which covers all of the topics of subject. List of topics will be
available at the end of course.
Structure of report
• Introduction to the finance of the chosen country
– Population, GDP/capita, economic growth, inflation, capitalisation/GDP, total granted
non-financial loans/GDP, other social data
• Activity of monetary authority
– degree of independence
– tools of monetary policy
– analysis of balance sheet of National Bank (2006/07)
• Structure of central budget (2006/07)
– main expenses (functional distribution)
– main revenues (tax structure)
• Analysis of balance of payment (2006/07)
