OroB7 is available via local wholesalers and is prescribable on GP systems. Please note that Biotin is non-formulary locally. Metoject® (50mg/1ml methotrexate) pre-filled pens The switch from syringes to pens will take effect from the 1st July 2014; from this date hospitals will no longer be able to order the syringes, there may be some stock available in community for a short period. GP systems will be updated on the 1st July to reflect the change. Biotin is necessary for cell growth, the production of fatty acids, and the metabolism of fats and amino acids. There is a professional requirement that where a product is ordered on a prescription, a pharmacist must supply a product with a marketing authorization, where such a product exists and is available, in preference to an unlicensed medicine. E-mail [email protected] Products Miscellany and Supply Problems June 2014 Revised SPC: Decapeptyl® (triptorelin) SR 3mg/11.25mg/22.5mg Revised SPCs: Depixol® (flupentixol) injections and tablets General Information St John’s Wort Legislative changes will come into force on Tuesday 10 June 2014 Section 4.2 now states that in patients treated with GnRH analogues for metastatic prostate cancer, treatment is usually continued upon development of castrate-resistant prostate cancer. Reference should be made to relevant guidelines. Information on leukopenia, neutropenia and agranulocytosis has been added to section 4.4 (warnings and precautions); information on adverse events that may have a negative impact on female and/or male sexual function and fertility has been added to section 4.6 (fertility). Triptorelin injections are currently AMBER in the local formulary. MHRA Drug Safety Update warns that St John’s Wort impairs the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives. The risk affects all hormonal contraceptives including long-acting reversible implants-but there is no evidence on whether it affects intrauterine devices. Tramadol will become a Schedule 3 controlled drug (CD No Register POM), but will be exempt from safe custody regulations. Flupentixol injections and tablets are currently GREEN in the local formulary. Changes of note are : A prescription for a controlled drug in schedules 2, 3, or 4 is valid for 28 days from the date stated on the prescription. The quantities prescribed for schedule 2, 3, 4 should not exceed 30 days’ supply. Tramadol cannot be prescribed in the repeat dispensing system or sent via EPS.
