Friedman) Study period: 08/13 to present Synopsis: This pilot study of 400 second grade students in the Baltimore City Public School system is being conducted to determine the prevalence of eye disease in a grade school population and to determine if there is a correlation between reading difficulty and vision problems. Title: Prospective Evaluation of the Safety and Effectiveness of Chloral Hydrate Sedation for Ophthalmic Procedures Study Role: Investigator (PI: David S. Friedman) Study Period: 01/14 to present Synopsis: The study, which is being conducted at King Khaled Eye and Surgery Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will determine if chloral hydrate sedation can be an effective means for monitoring pediatric patients requiring ophthalmic evaluations. The impact of chloral hydrate on eye pressure will also be assessed. Title: Design and implementation of an ethics and ophthalmology curriculum for ophthalmology residency training Study Role: Principal Investigator Study period: 07/2014 to present Synopsis: This research project is being done to learn more about the current ethics and professional curricular needs at ophthalmology programs in the US and to develop a curriculum model that can be adopted nationwide. Title: Head-mounted digital camera for indirect ophthalmoscopy Study role: Investigator (PI: David Guyton) Study Period: 07/1/14 to present Synopsis: This study will examine the use of Google glasses to perform retinopathy of prematurity screening exams in the neonatal intensive care unit. Title: INTERMITTENT EXOTROPIA STUDY 3 (IXT3): A Pilot Randomized Clinical Trial of Overminus Spectacle Therapy for Intermittent Exotropia Study Role: PEDIG Site Investigator (Site PI: Michael X. Repka) Study Period: 11/1/14 to present Synopsis: This PEDIG study will evaluate the use of overminus spectacle correction for children with intermittent exotropia. Title: Cataract Registry (CO2): Pediatric Cataract Surgery Outcomes Registry Study Role: PEDIG Site Investigator (Site PI: Michael X. Repka) Study Period: 11/1/14 to present Synopsis: This PEDIG registry will prospectively collect demographic and longitudinal clinical data on any pediatric patient who develops a cataract. Title: Amblyopia Treatment Study (ATS18): Study of Binocular Computer Activities for Treatment of Amblyopia Study Role: PEDIG Site Investigator (Site PI: Michael X. Repka) Study Period: 11/1/14 to present Synopsis: This PEDIG study will randomize pediatric patients with strabismus or anisometropic amblyopia to patching versus binocular computer activity with an iPad for the treatment of amblyopia.
