GUIDE FORM SPECIFICATIONS
ultra✭sport tm floodlight
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The NEMA heavy-duty weather-resistant floodlight designated
_______ (identify) GE ULTRA✭SPORT floodlight, ordering number _______ (specify ULTS, ULTK, ULTI, ULTR, ULTO, ULTT or
ULTE, plus ordering number logic from catalog) or approved
equal, for operation of one _______ (specify 1000, 1500 or
2000) watt metal halide lamp from a nominal _____ (specify
[(120, 208, 220, 240, 277, 347 or 480) volt, 60 Hertz] or [(220,
230 or 240) volt, 50 Hertz]) power source and shall be capable
of starting and operating the indicated lamp within the limits
specified by the lamp manufacturer. The floodlight shall contain
a completely prewired integral ballast and optical assembly.
The floodlight shall be UL/cUL Listed SUITABLE FOR WET LOCATIONS. For cUL Listing, contact factory. Standard construction
is IP55. The floodlight shall have a decal indicating reflector
identification viewable from the ground. Ballast, housing, optical and luminaire assembly shall all be from the same manufacturer.
MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION
For ease of installation and to facilitate maintenance and replacement, the floodlight shall be supplied completely
assembled with double-ended metal halide lamp installed.
The heavy-duty aluminum optical reflector housing and heavyduty aluminum electrical components housing shall be integral,
but thermally isolated.
The lower housing shall contain all electrical components including optional hot restart components.
All maintenance access shall be from the rear of the floodlight,
and shall not affect aiming of the floodlight.
The floodlight shall have a heavy-duty steel mounting
trunnion with zinc rich epoxy powder finish for corrosion resistance, be capable of either top or bottom mounting, and precision balanced for accurate aiming.
The floodlight shall be equipped with permanent degree aiming
indicators on both sides of pivot point.
BALLAST OPERATION
The floodlight shall contain a _______ (specify standard voltage
Autoreg or System 2TM Bi-Level Controls Autoreg) type ballast*
mounted in an aluminum housing with a thermal wedge for
optimum heat transfer. The ballast shall be in full compliance
with lamp-ballast specifications available to the fixture manufacturer from the lamp manufacturers at the time of fixture
manufacture.
The ballast circuit shall reliably start and stabilize a nominal
lamp in ambient temperatures down to -29°C. Maximum ambient temperatures shall be 40°C for 1500 watt and 1000 watt
and 25°C for 2000 watt integral systems. The ballast circuit
shall operate a nominal lamp at its design center after thermal
stabilization.
OPTICAL ASSEMBLY
The optical assembly shall be a _______ (specify M01 [Medium
Oval without Internal Glare Control Skirts], M02 [Medium Oval
with Internal Glare Control Skirts], W01 [Wide Oval without Internal Glare Control Skirts], W02 [Wide Oval with Internal Glare
Control Skirts, S01 [Stadium Oval without Internal Glare Control
Skirts], S02 [Stadium Oval with Internal Glare Control Skirts],
WW1 [Extra Wide Oval without Internal Glare Control Skirts] or
WW2 [Extra Wide Oval with Internal Glare Control Skirts]) and
shall contain a two-piece reflector consisting of Rear/Primary
reflector and Front/Secondary reflector. The Rear/Primary reflector shall be made of press molded glass with a high reflectance dichroic coating providing 95% visible light reflectivity.
It shall be housed in a non-corrosive high-pressure die-cast
aluminum cover, hinged to the main housing ring, and held
shut by four corrosion resistant fasteners. The rear reflector
housing and front reflector assembly shall both be completely
sealed to the main housing.
The rear reflector housing shall hinge open 90° and have a
primary lamp power disconnect to cut off power to the lamp
when the housing door is open for relamping. The double-ended metal halide lamp shall be held in place by stainless steel
spring clips that snap/lock in place. Electrical connection to the
lamp shall be separate from mechanical support.
The 20-inch (508 mm) Front/Secondary aluminum reflector
made of highly specular spun aluminum and finished with an
ALGLAS® silica-glass coating shall be enclosed in a heavy-duty
spun aluminum casing. The front tempered door glass shall be
1/8-inch (3.2 mm) thick and be permanently sealed and gasketed to the casing.
The front tempered glass shall incorporate an integrity sensing
circuit that shall automatically shut off power to the lamp for
ultraviolet radiation protection if the glass is broken.
The entire optical system shall be sealed. Any thermal air transfer shall move through an advanced filtering system with particulate trapping, chemical absorbing and moisture
controlling properties.
