Section 3.2 – Graphing Linear Equations
Linear Equation in Two Variables is an equation that can be written in the form
𝐴𝑥 + 𝐵𝑦 = 𝐶
The graph of a linear equation in two variables is a straight line.
Examples:
1. Is the equation −9𝑥 = −7𝑦 + 9 a linear equation in two variables?
2. Is the equation 6𝑥 2 + 2𝑦 = 12 a linear equation in two variables?
Graphing Linear Equations by Plotting Ordered Pair Solutions:

To find an ordered pair solution, choose a value for either x or y, plug it into the
equation and then solve for the other value.

You must find at least 2 ordered pairs

Use a third point for a check
3. For the equation, find three ordered pair solutions by completing the table. Then use
any 2 of the ordered pairs to graph the equation.
