1 Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics Equivalent or Alternative Units for the Combined Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Engineering Course (51160) Please note: The tables of approved equivalent or alternative units have been used to identify the units which are cross credited and also units which are common to both degrees. The figures below each table indicate the points for each component of the combined course and the points which are cross credited. Course Structure The course consists of 240–270 points depending on the combination of major/program selected. Approved Program Combinations A student must complete one of the approved combinations of Science Majors and Engineering Programs. A full list of the available science majors and engineering programs is available at http://rules.handbooks.uwa.edu.au/rules/combinedcourses/1/division30/approvecombinations/table130a. Other combinations may be available with the approval of the Faculty of Life and Physical Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics. Required Points for Completion Bachelor of Science = 144 points. The Bachelor of Engineering component consists of units to a total value of 126–150 points after allowing for units which are cross credited from the Bachelor of Science component in accordance with (d) below, comprising: (a) all of the foundation core units required under Rule 6.2.2A.6(1)(a) of the UWA Handbook – 36 points. and (b) the core units for the chosen Bachelor of Engineering program as set out in the rules in 6.2 of the UWA Handbook – 90 to 144 points. and (c) Options from the table of options for the chosen program as listed in the rules for the Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Science in the UWA Handbook. except that (d) Students may complete units in the Bachelor of Science component that will be credited to both the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Engineering components, as set out in the tables 1 to 8 for each engineering program (below) (i.e. students who complete the units on the right side of the appropriate table DO NOT have to complete the corresponding unit on the left side of the table). TABLE A (below) summarizes the number of points required to complete each program in the Bachelor of Engineering component of the Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Science combined course, including units that, under (d), count towards both the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Engineering components. 2 TABLE A: Table of Program Core Points and Program Option Points required for the Engineering component.
